Randwick Racing Tips: Saturday, June 21st 2025

Race 5: Qms Media BM72 1600m – 1:20pm (AEST)

(2) Sounds Unusual: 4YO Gelding who has been very impressive since debut and continues to race well and improve. He hasn’t missed the trifecta from all career starts. Most recently he destroyed his rivals over this trip/grade at Warwick Farm winning by 6 lengths. Only gets an extra 2kg on his back after that and Nash Rawiller jumps back on with J-Mac riding overseas. Draws the widest gate being the only knock, so will need a bit of luck from out there.

(5) Miss Kim Kar: 3YO Filly who has been flying this preparation and continues to raise the bar with each run. Her win two starts back over 1400m in heavy conditions was nothing short of exceptional — she settled at the rear, was forced to track three wide with cover throughout, and then unleashed a powerful finishing burst down the outside to score with authority, putting over a length on them with a big space to third. She then stepped out to the mile last start where she lost no admirers. It was a gutsy performance in a blanket finish, beaten only narrowly in a four-way go. Now dropping back in grade, she looks well placed with the 3kg claim bringing her down to just 56kg. She’s drawn ideally and gets a race shape that should suit. Based on what she’s shown this prep, she’s incredibly hard to knock.

(16) Stallone: 3YO Gelding who was solid last campaign and then resumed honestly only finishing 1.5L off Piggyback over 1300m. Disappointing last start, but the rise to 1600m looks ideal and Ashley Morgan has a nice record when on top. Early market support suggests he will be running on. Blow out hope.

$5.50/$2.15 (1u/2u)

Race 9: Racing For Good Civic Stakes 1400m – 3:45pm (AEST)

(3) Willaidow: Roughie of the field who wasn’t the worst last start finishing 4th in the Stradbroke.  He has trialled since that run and was handy. If he drew a better gate I'd be bullish on this fella as he is rock hard fit, loves this trip and has an impressive wet track record. If he can snag a spot during transit from the wide draw he can be expected to be running on and be around the mark. Do not dismiss.

(13) Headley Grange: Talented 4YO who was very impressive first up, so is a deserving favourite for this. The rise to 1400m looks ideal second up and he handles the soft track nicely. No reason why he can't win again and he will have plenty of followers here. Major player.

(16) Cool Jakey: Very honest 5YO who has been racing well against some tough company and has appreciated the wet tracks. He looks suited back over 1400m and if he can ping the lids and dictate, he will take some catching here. If any rain is about I'd be leaning more in this fella's favour. One to watch.

(13) Headley Grange

$3.30 (3 units)

Race 10: Switzerland @ Coolmore BM94 1200m - 4:25pm (AEST)

(1) Contemporary: 5YO gelding who looks a genuine value play and appears well over the odds for this. His first-up run in Listed company at Scone was encouraging — settled back in the field and worked home strongly, posting some sharp late sectionals that suggest he's come back in good order. His second-up effort was another step forward, finishing a close-up third over 1100m on this track, again finding the line with purpose. He now hits peak fitness third-up. He handles wet tracks, is effective at the trip, and maps nicely from a soft draw. With the 2kg claim bringing him in well at the weights, he's right in the mix. Hard to ignore on recent form and must be respected back in grade.

(7) Cigar Flick: 4YO Mare who was handy enough when resuming last start and chased well from the tail. Late sectionals were good. Strips fitter now and should be around the mark in this field. Sticky gate the concern, but with some luck he will be going close at odds.

(19) Kerguelen: 4YO gelding who has begun his career is good fashion notching up 3 wins and 3 seconds from the 6 careers runs. Continues to race well and loves the wet track. Unbeaten from 2 attempts over this trip and Zac Lloyd has a good relationship on top. This is his toughest test yet but looks another great chance and this will cement him as a talented type moving forward. Major player.

(1) Contemporary E/W

$19/$4.60 (0.5u/1u)
