Match Preview
The Tigers put another week of negative off-field headlines behind them to capture victory over the Sharks at their spiritual home ground of Leichhardt Oval. Gritty and determined, they grinded out a 2-point extra time victory via some disciplined play. They controlled possession (53%) and gave themselves a good chance of winning with an 82% completion rate. Despite making more metres and PCM’s, they will want to lift their average (7.9m per carry), as well as improve upon the number of tackles missed (36).
The Dragons were poor in their ANZAC Day clash against the Roosters, comprehensively defeated 46-18. The intensity was high early, but they quickly found themselves behind, conceding 3 first half tries to trail 20-6 at HT. The game was all but over as the Roosters powered home in the second half. The Dragons only have themselves to blame. With an inferior share of possession (45%), they completed at just 73%, made 500 fewer metres, allowed 10 line breaks and missed 27 tackles. Certain effort areas must be better for them moving forward.
It is surprising to see these teams so close in the odds. The performance of the Tigers recently is far superior to the Dragons. The most concerning thing is that they allowed 11.5m per carry; changes have been made to their starting side for this week but an overhaul in the halves will hardly change this. It will improve their structure but even that has a lot of improvement left. The spirited win of the Tigers also masked their shortcoming; one thing is for sure; they will be determined to build on that result. Marshall has stuck with the same team, providing stability for that to occur. There is little to separate the team based on their 2025 statistics; they are equal in attack (22ppg) with the Tigers having a slight edge defensively (20ppg vs 23ppg).
The history suggests a Dragons victory, as they have won 6 of the past 7 against the Tigers including 4-straight successes. Everything points towards that trend stopping but the Dragons are poised to bounce back from a poor showing. Their coach has a history of doing this. With it too close to make a confident call, land on either team winning by less than two converted tries and increasing your stake to add value.

Leg 1: Total Points Under 46.5 Points – the attacking/defensive records in 2025 of both teams support this. Furthermore, the average total points in their past 5 matches is 44.8, with 3 games scoring no more than 36 points.
Leg 2: Turuva to score – bounced back to form with a strong showing last week. He will again be out to perform well after dropping his standards back in Round 7. He also leads the Tigers with 8 tries so far this season.
Leg 3: Sloane to score – he is the equal leading try scorer for the Dragons with 7. His speed makes him a threat and he is great in the air also.
