New Zealand vs Australia 1st T20 Betting Tips

Mount Maunganui, Wednesday, 4.15pm (AEST)

New Zealand

New Zealand come into the series as the No.4 ranked T20 team in the world but in incredibly hot form, having won nine of their 11 T20 matches in 2025 so far. Those wins came in series over Pakistan, South Africa and Zimbabwe, but they’ll have a tougher test this time around against their proverbial big brother in Australia.

The batting department is led by the likes of talented youngster Rachin Ravindra and stalwarts in Devon Conway and Tim Seifert, who is currently the only Kiwi in the top 10 ranked T20 world batsmen. Their bowling department looks a little more well rounded and filled with world class performers in Matt Henry, Jacob Duffy and Kyle Jamieson.

Predicted New Zealand XI: Tim Seifert, Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Mark Chapman, Daryl Mitchell, Michael Bracewell, Zakary Foulkes, Kyle Jamieson, Ish Sodhi, Matt Henry, Jacob Duffy

Australia

Similar to the Kiwis, the Aussies have been in a dominant patch of T20 internationals, having won 10 of their last 11 games dating back to late 2024. The changing of the guard with a new look team and new skipper in Mitch Marsh has been a fruitful one, as they have climbed to No.2 in the T20 international team rankings.

The batting line-up has serious firepower throughout, with any one of Travis Head, Tim David, Mitch Marsh, Mitch Owen or Matthew Short capable of winning a game off their own bat. The bowling unit is is less experienced but well led by stalwarts in Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa.

Predicted Australian XI: Travis Head, Mitch Marsh, Matthew Short, Mitchell Owen, Glenn Maxwell, Tim David, Alex Carey, Ben Dwarshuis, Sean Abbott, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood

Prediction

Hard to look past the Aussies here with the firepower they have in their batting line-up particularly on the smaller Bay Oval ground that should promote plenty of power hitting.

The average score of the team batting first in the last eight T20 international games at Bay Oval has been a whopping 182.6. I think both teams to score 150+ and the Aussies to win is good value here.
