It’s do-or-die tonight as the Mumbai Indians face the Punjab Kings in a high-pressure IPL Qualifying Final. With a spot in the final against RCB on the line, the clash promises to be a thriller. Check out our preview and betting tips below.
Mumbai Indians vs Punjab Kings Prediction & Tips: 2025 IPL Qualifier 2
Sky’s The Limit
Suryakumar ‘Sky’ Yadav has relished his promotion to No.3 in the Mumbai batting order this season. He sits in 2nd place on the 2025 IPL leading runscorers list with 673 runs at a ridiculous average of 67.3. He has now scored at least 25 runs in 15 straight IPL games and will no doubt be the key wicket for the Kings if they have any hopes of advancing to the final. Rohit Sharma found form at the top of the order in the qualifier, smashing 81 off 50 balls to lead the Indians to a winning total.
Spin to Win for the Kings
The Kings have relied on a quality seam attack in Marco Jansen, Arshdeep Singh, Kyle Jamieson and Vyshak Vijakumar to get them this far in the tournament, but that could change on Sunday night with star spinner Yuzi Chahal recovering from injury and set to take his place in the side. With Marco Jansen out of the side for international duty, there could be a pivot towards eight overs of spin for the Kings.
From Collapse to Comeback?
The Kings have had one of the most well-rounded batting line-ups in the IPL throughout the 2025 season, but were embarrassed by RCB in the qualifying final, being bundled out for just 101 as all of the top five failed to fire. They’ll need to bounce back in a big way on Sunday night, particularly their skipper, Shreyas Iyer, who leads the team with 516 runs this year at 46.9.
PBKS Predicted XII (Sub Included): Priyash Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, Josh Inglis, Shreyas Iyer, Nehal Wadhera, Shashank Singh, Marcus Stoinis, Harpreet Brar, Kyle Jamieson, Arshdeep Singh, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Yuzi Chahal
Deadly Silent, Deadly Accurate: Bumrah Owns the Big Stage
If the Kings batting line-up does want to bounce back in Qualifier 2, they’ll have one momentous hurdle standing in their way, Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah has taken 18 wickets in 11 games this season at a league best average of just 15.33. His economy rate of 6.36 from 43 overs bowled is also far and away the best in the league. He leads a somewhat undermanned Mumbai bowling unit but any side with Bumrah in it is capable of winning on any night.
MI Predicted XII (Sub Included): Rohit Sharma, Jonny Bairstow, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Naman Dhir, Mitchell Santner, Raj Bawa, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, Richard Gleeson, Ashwani Kumar
Our IPL Qualifier 2 Tip
It’s hard to predict the ladder leading team to go out in straight sets, but unfortunately for the Kings, I think they have hit a bit of a form slump at the wrong time of the year, and losing Marco Jansen to international duty on the eve of the finals series is a huge blow.
The Indians have been looking for a running mate for Yadav at the top of the order all season and with Rohit Sharma finding some form, this Indians batting line-up now looks absolutely primed. Throw a rampant Jasprit Bumrah into the mix and I think Mumbai have too much firepower for the Kings here. Back them to get the job done as slight favourites.
