Moonee Valley Racing Tips: Saturday January 21st

January 20th 2023, 2:13pm, By: Brendan Bunworth

Moonee Valley Racing Tips

The Valley is home to metropolitan racing at Victoria on Saturday with nine races programmed. The first gets underway at 12:35pm with the first of my four best bets of the day taking place in race two.

After a little rain in Melbourne on Wednesday the track is predicted to be a Soft5 but it wouldn't surprise me if they get an upgrade during the afternoon.

Brendan Bunworth has picked out his four best bets of the card and brings us his Moonee Valley racing tips below. And if you're looking to bet this Saturday, then why not give Neds a try?

Moonee Valley Racing Tips: Saturday, January 21st

Race 2

(2) Unflinching for Anthony and Sam Freedman has drawn well in barrier two and after two seconds in a row is ready to win. Fresh up from a spell he ran a good 2nd behind a smart one in Inundation before becoming bridesmaid again in the following start where he was 2nd all of the way after coming over from a wide barrier in 10. The better draw just might assist him in a length or two.

(1) Lady Solly loves The Valley and has also drawn well in 3. She is first up and has won three times from eight when first up.

(7) Joselyn is up in grade but does like this distance. She will probably need an upgrade in track to win though.

(3) Way to the Stars will settle on pace and won't mind if it is Good or Soft. Got up by a nose at Doomben last start after leading and probably will need to lead to win again.

(2) Unflinching WIN

$1.90 (3 Units)

Race 4

(6) Shuffle Dancer has the ability to run on very well and despite The Valley being hard for horses to make ground up at times, i think she can win for Peter Moody and Ben Melham. It's her first try here but from barrier 4 she might settle a little closer in this and make her sustained run a little earlier.

(4) Running on Time has won both career starts. One on the Good and one on the Soft so the track is not an issue for the Maher & Eustace galloper. Mark Zahra hops on.

(7) Field the Moment will roll forward in this and despite this race being harder, she should get a big chance to show her best from the inside barrier with a couple of the higher rated horses getting back. A slowly run race for this one is key.

(2) Michelotti was unplaced in his only run here but is fitter now and does go well third up from a spell.

(6) Shuffle Dancer WIN

$1.90 (3 Units)

Race 5

(10) The Nephew has had two goes at The Valley for two unplaced runs but despite this he was close up here in a tougher race two starts back. On that occasion he was slowly away but ran on very well. He will need luck in running no doubt but his 2nd behind Riverplate was very good last start which gives us confidence. The blinkers stay on which may assist again.

(5) Highland Jakk has won two races over this distance now and he does like the track.

(1) Arran Bay will settle around 3rd in the run but he will need the race run slowly i think if he can win.

(2) Ain’tnodeeldun doesn't win out of turn but will be running on hard over the concluding stages.

(4) Chandon Burj has drawn well and has Damien Oliver on. He is one from one at The Valley.

(10) The Nephew WIN

$4.40 (2 Units)

Race 8

(12) Munhamek will only carry 53kg this time which will help i reckon. He is racing well and does his best racing on Good and Soft tracks. He arguably should have won at this track last time. Jye McNeil takes the ride.

(11) Pounding should settle handy from barrier 2 and his placing behind Detonator Jack two starts ago was very good before getting a deserved win last start. No rain in the 24 hours in the lead up to the race will assist.

(6) Savannah Cloud is going for five on end and does like the track and distance. Is slightly up in class.

(8) Playoffs goes well first up and may be overs. Does go well here.

(12) Munhamek WIN

$5 (1 Unit)
