As we build towards The Championships in Sydney over the next couple of weeks we have some quality racing across Rosehill and Caulfield today, as well as the 3rd day of the Oakbank Carnival down in South Australia.
The Group 1 Tancred Stakes is the highlight of the day in Sydney while the Caulfield card looks a terrific meeting with plenty of good betting races.

Horse Racing Tips: Saturday April 3rd
Rosehill Race 1
Pretty keen to have something on (6) Conrad here who looks to have plenty of talent after producing two quality runs so far in his career. He was well backed in a strong maiden at Canterbury on debut where he very narrowly went down to Mazu before following that up with a 3.8L romp at Wyong to break his maiden status. Barrier 12 won’t be too much of an issue with this horse showing plenty of natural speed so far to date and I’d expect him to go forward from the wide gate. Kim Waugh has high praises for this horse and I think he is a massive chance of taking the next step here today.
(5) Coastwatch is the one I want to have something on at a price and looks to be a massive improver 2nd up today. Was a huge win fresh coming from well back to score in an impressive win. Jmac sticks with him from that race and you can’t count him out today.
(5) Coatswatch E/W $19/$5
Rosehill Race 4
Keen to back two horses in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes over 1500m. The first of those is (1) Krone who is absolutely flying and has been one of the in-form horses going around at the moment. Tony Gollan has mare airborne and she blitzed her rivals last start in the Coolmore and lines up against some of them again here. Can’t see any reason why she can’t win again and her turn of foot is incredible once she gets going. Pretty certain that she will be in the finish here today.
(2) Greysful Glamour is an interesting runner as she finally strikes her beloved dry track. She comes into this off the back of the All Star Mile where she was undone by track conditions but her best performances are certainly good enough to give this a shake. Love the fact she comes back to mares grade here and will be giving them something to catch on a hard and fast surface.
(2) Greysful Glamour EW $10/$3.10
Caulfield Race 4
This looks a good race for (6) Black Penn who very good in a strong Mornington Guineas last start and arguably should have finished closer, if not won. Had to be restrained back to last around the turn when horses fell in his lap but exploded once he saw daylight and looks ready to peak now 3rd up. This looks easier than last start and shouldn’t have to worry about traffic issues drawing barrier 10 today. Hoping Mott can find some cover towards the back of the field, get him out into clear air early and the horse should be doing the rest. Keen.
Caulfield Race 5
Hoping it will pay to be forgiving of (12) Vowmaster here who has disappointed in two runs this prep since a massively hyped first prep where he looked the next big thing. The return to Victoria is the part which intrigues me most here with his two dominant career wins both coming running the ‘Melbourne way’. Think he might just prefer it like that and even though he has run poorly his last two starts, I just can’t forget the arrogance of those first two career wins. It’s clear he has plenty of talent and it’s just a matter of if he can show it and put it all together today. Has won over 1100m before and should enjoy all favours from barrier 6. Opened $9.50 with most bookies and has been crunched early which has to give us some sort of confidence.
Caulfield Race 9
Good race to round out the card with a strong bm90 over 1600m. (9) Shandy looks one of the better bets of the day after a massive win fresh and usually performs even better with a run under her belt. The step up to the mile looks perfect where she has run well previously and looks to have come back even better this time around. Dry track suits and I’m hoping Lane can ride positively from gate 2 to find a spot in the midfield. She’s got a huge turn of foot and with even luck, should be winning.
