Flemington Racing Tips for Saturday, December 10th

December 9th 2016, 7:53pm, By: tim_tips

It's a welcome return to Flemington this Saturday, the 10th of December, after city meetings at Ballarat and Pakenham in recent weeks. The track is a Good 4 and the rail is out 6m the entire circuit.

We have betting tips for all 9 races on the card below.

Flemington Betting Tips - December 10th

Race 1

Happy to stick with LYUBA here for Darren Weir after a strong enough win first up from a 6 month spell. She did plenty wrong in that race where she over-raced for the first half of the race, so with that run under her belt she should improve here. She is a winner, and I think there are a few queries over some of the others so I am happy to back her and happy to take the $5 on offer, which is a price we can back her each-way at. I think the main danger, and the one I'm keeping safe, is INFRA DIG who comes down from Sydney. She won two starts ago and finished 2nd behind the smart Nieta last start, which is good enough form to win this.

Tip: Lyuba

Race 2

Good race. GALAXY RAIDER and DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR come out of the same race last start where Dollar For Dollar beat Galaxy Raider by a nose. Galaxy Raider gets a 2kg weight swing today and did have to make a big run last start as opposed to Dollar For Dollar who sat up on speed and clung on. That would suggest Galaxy Raider should be able to turn the tables today, but Dollar For Dollar was first up from a 213 day spell on that occasion which would suggest he is open to plenty of improvement. They've backed Galaxy Raider into as short as $1.90 now while Dollar For Dollar has drifted out to $4.20. At those prices, I'd be happy to back Dollar For Dollar based on the theory that he should improve significantly on his first up run and that could see him good enough to win again. At his second start last prep he won by 5.5L so if he shows the same improvement he can win again. The best value in the race could be BALF'S CHOICE who won easily first up in South Australia before running a big race in town last start. He gets the significant booking of Damien Oliver here and looks over the odds at $20.

Tip: Dollar For Dollar / Balf's Choice EW

Race 3

TAVI BAY won a nice race first up over this track and distance with 60kg on her back so she should be well suited to produce a repeat performance here with a good draw and 55.5kg on her back. The slight query is the 37 days between races but if she comes here fit enough she should be hard to beat. HELL OR HIGHWATER is the main danger having won three of her past four races.

Tip: Tavi Bay

Race 4

Two I want to be on here. The first is KING'S COMMAND who won well first up at Moonee Valley after a good trial. Has won 2nd up before and has won at the track, albeit over the 1400m and not the straight. Gets in well with the claim and I think he's come back a good horse so he should be very competitive again here at $5. The second is NOT A HAPPY CAMPER at longer odds ($14). Some horses are just suited by the straight course and this is one of them. He's raced over this track and distance three times for three 3rd placings. Has been freshened up for this and I think we'll see him run a big race.

Tip: King's Command / Not A Happy Camper EW

Race 5

Looks a race in two here and I'll be backing CHARLEVOIX with a saver on GOATHLAND. Charlevoix has to carry the 59kg here but his run last start was super where he stepped up from 1400m to the 2300m and charged home to just miss by a nose. The step up to 2500m is right up his alley and I think he can carry the 59kg to victory. Goathland showed huge improvement last start when stepped up to 2000m. This horse finished 2nd in the Rowley Cup over 2400m in the UK which is a good race, and that suggests he has very good ability over this distance. He should only improve again up to 2500m and with the claim he gets in with 56kg which is a significant benefit. Locking in $2.25 and $5.

Tip: Charlevoix (best bet)

Race 6

Two I'm interested in backing here. I have no idea how they put RIDGWAY up $26 in early markets but he's around his right price now at the $7.50 mark and that price is good enough for me to back what I think is a very promising horse. He ran a huge race on debut at Sandown in May and he's trialled well leading into this. The wide barrier is no bad thing and the claim gets him in well with just 55.5kg. The second horse of interest is WHAT A SHOCK who won his maiden in nice style over Fast Tycoon. That horse has since come out and won, while What A Shock then came out and ran 2nd behind the very promising Wise Hero at Moonee Valley. His form is solid and with Dunn aboard here he could be value at $15.

Tip: Ridgway / What A Shock EW

Race 7

With Duibio scratched it leaves the race at the mercy of Snoopy who won well in Sydney last start in good time and comes to Melbourne where the form typically holds strong. There are two at longer prices I want to play on though. MASTER OF ARTS resumes for Darren Weir and this horse is capable of pulling out a big run fresh. He's undefeated at this track and has a good record at 1400m, gets a 1.5kg claim and has a good first up record, and it wouldn't surprise me to see this horse come out and win at 20/1. The second horse is AIRALIGN who gets in with just 52kg after the claim. He won first up at Kilmore with 60.5kg but importantly, he's won 4 from 5 when 2nd up from a spell so he should run a huge race here\ at $9.50. I'll be backing both and hoping one of them causes an upset.

Tip: Airalign / Master Of Arts (best value)

Race 8

Really tough race here with a number of chances. There's no real reason to jump off BLACK SHEEP here on the back of his good recent form. He's won two of his past three but really should have won all three and despite the step up in grade he can win again. The slight query is the Flemington course. The huge watch in the race is the horse having his first start in Australia which is LORD LUMBERJACK. He's a German horse that's been racing in France and we know how good these imports can be. His best might still come over 2000m and beyond but he's apparently had three private trials leading into this so expect him to run a big race.

Tip: Black Sheep

Race 9

MA DEUCE resumed from a spell over the unsuitable 1100m with 61kg so back down to 57kg with a good run and stepped up in distance he should be able to show his best. I think BRADMAN can run a big race here after a good first up run behind King's Command over 1200m at the Valley. He's got a decent record at this track and distance and Hayes/Williams is a good lead. BROWN BEN and OZI CHOICE are also good chances in a deep race.

Tip: Ma Deuce
