Manchester United vs Tottenham
Old Trafford, Saturday 7th February, 11:30pm AEDT
Another late winner made it three wins from three games under Michael Carrick, which has Manchester United sitting in fourth place on the Premier League table. The Red Devils will be looking for a fourth straight win when they host Tottenham at Old Trafford. Tottenham are winless from their last six league games, however they will be buoyed after coming back from 2-0 down in the second half against Man City last week to secure a 2-2 draw.
Manchester United’s game has flourished since Carrick took over, scoring eight goals across their last three games, including games against Arsenal and Man City. On the other side, Tottenham’s defence has been woeful in recent times, conceding nine goals across their last four games, conceding multiple goals in each game. If United can control possession and in turn create a free flowing affair, they are going to challenge a Spurs defence that hasn’t shown an ability to hold up.
We have seen these three game sugar hits from United before, but a poor run of results has followed. Manchester United had a three game winning streak back in October, which they followed up with draws against Forest, Spurs and a defeat to Everton. The Red Devils haven’t won four consecutive league games since the 2023/24 season, and factoring this all in, they are far too short odds in this game. Tottenham +1 gives plenty of value and enough of a buffer that they should be able to cover.

Arsenal vs Sunderland
Emirates Stadium, Sunday 8th February, 2:00am AEDT
Eighth placed Sunderland face a huge challenge on Sunday as they head to the Emirates to take on the league leaders. Arsenal once again have been gifted a leg up in the title race, with Manchester City and Aston Villa dropping points to see the Gunners move six points clear at the top of the table. With City facing Liverpool this week, Mikel Arteta’s side have a big opportunity to create an even bigger gap from the chasing pack.
The Gunners have been elite at both ends of the pitch, ranking as the number one defence (17 goals conceded) and the second best attack in the league (46 goals scored). Another area Arsenal have been brilliant at, is winning games at home. Arsenal have the equal best home record in the Premier League at 9-2-1, with their only defeat two weeks ago against Manchester United. Sunderland have been one of the worst teams in the league away from home this season, with a 2-4-6 away record, ranked 17th in the Premier League.
After a bright start to the season that saw them on the cusp of the top four, Sunderland have struggled over the last seven weeks, winning just two of their last eight games in the Premier League. The Black Cats just don’t have the quality to match it with the best teams in the league, and that is displayed by the fact they are yet to win a game against a top four team this season. The Gunners will be eager to dominate at home, and keep their gap on the rest of the league.

Liverpool vs Manchester City
Anfield, Monday 9th February, 3:30am AEDT
The headline fixture of Matchday 25 is the final game of the weekend as Manchester City travel to Anfield to play Liverpool. Manchester City once again gave away a golden opportunity to stay in touch with league leaders Arsenal, as they threw away a two goal lead in a 2-2 draw with Spurs last week. Despite Arsenal winning just one of their last four games, City have failed to capitalise, winning only one of their last six games. Liverpool ended a five game losing run with a 4-1 win over Newcastle on Matchday 24 in a dominant performance from Arne Slot’s side.
The Reds dominated all facets of the game, winning the shot count +8, winning the possession count with 54% and scored 4 goals from 7 shots on target. Both of these sides are brilliant attacking teams, but are vulnerable to defensive lapses. The ability to hold up defensively across the entirety of the 90 minutes will likely decide this game, given both clubs rank in the top six for goals scored this season.
These two clubs have played in plenty of title defining games over the past five years, with a lot of close results. Four of the last nine games between Liverpool and City have resulted in a draw, while Liverpool have a 2-2-1 record in the last five league fixtures against Manchester City. Given Liverpool and City have both drawn four of their last six games, and the inconsistent nature of both teams recently, all roads point towards another tightly contested match.
