Eagle Farm Racing Tips: Saturday, 5th August 2023
Race 3: Nat Jockeys Celebrations BM70 1200m – 12:48pm (AEST)
(1) ACRES AWAY – Mackay galloper who makes the trek south after two visually impressive victories. First-up he sat up on a good speed, before getting a mid-race breather OSL, and then produced a good TOF to score with a nice gap to third. He then stayed at 1100m and was ridden colder back third last turning for home. When he found clear air, he went bang and won eased down. Gets to 1200m third-up today and should get another GOOD track. Draws a lovely gate and has already shown versatility in racing styles. I note Bubba Tilley has elected to stay with him over WATCHGUARD too. Keen to have something small at the price. Nice value bet. (1.5 units win).
(2) TANGO FEVER – Favourite of the race who won very nicely first up in open grade and looks capable of going on with it. Appears to be too short in the market for my liking hence why I am taking this filly on. Goes well though.

Race 4: Country Music Raceday BM85 1000m – 12:23pm (AEST)
(8) JEMELDI – I think this guy is a great chance in an open race (went up $10 some places!). I concede he doesn’t have the best record at EF, but I have to have something on him after the LS effort. He was run off his legs early, but picked himself up and was jogtrotting on the corner before extricating to the outside and launching late to just miss VODKA MARTINI (was a dominant favourite / looks smart). Kyle Wilson-Taylor has stuck with him and produced two good steers his last two starts. Draws a ripping gate to sit midfield with cover and there looks enough speed on paper to give those back in the field a chance. He has a great TOF on his day and can win. Overs. (1 unit win).
(6) HOLD ON HONEY – 5YO gelding who returns to the races today and has a nice first up record and wet track record. Had been competing nicely in easier class and has had a trial prior to this. Should be around the mark with the claim to secure light weight.

Race 7: Ladbrokes Yard Comments RS0MW 1400m – 3:12pm (AEST)
(3) BEAN FOGGY – best each-way bet of the day! Sound return first-up behind SAILOR’S SECRET over 1350m when he was a firmer in the market and made good ground late on a day when it was no disadvantage being on-speed. The stable scratched him from a race at EF 3-weeks ago to run in the Maclean Cup at Grafton and he was backed off the map before going under by a nose (nice gap to third / strong through the line / good ride on the winner). He gets in on the minimum after the claim today, maps perfectly from gate 6 to sit in behind the leaders, and he’s third-up ready to peak. He can win! (1 unit win 2 units place)
(3) BEAN FOGGY – E/W

Race 8: XXXX HCP 1400m – 3:48pm (AEST)
(5) BETTER GET SET – best bet of the day! Comes out of Listed grade, where she’s been going super without much luck, to Open Hcp level and only gets penalised 1kg at the weights. 1000m was too sharp for her first-up when she made some good ground late before going to 1200m second-up when she led them up and beat all-bar CHASSIS who got up on her inside to win (good ride). LS she went to the Ramornie at Grafton and was caught 3WNC the trip but boxed on very well to run fifth beaten 2.2L behind THE BIG GOODBYE (DEEPOUR since run well / beat home LASTING KISS). She hasn’t won over 1400m yet, but she was an impressive winner at the end of last prep this track over 1300m when she surged late to get by JUAN DIVA (strong through the line / good gaps in behind). If she can get a kinder run in transit today, the extra furlong looks ideal. Go well. (3 units win).
