The rail is out 2.5m the entirety after being out 4m last time we raced here (no disadvantage on-speed / inside lanes that day), and our selections are for a GOOD/SOFT track with showers predicted Friday afternoon – watch and monitor for any pattern if possible.

Race 2: Drinkwise BM90 2200m at 12:33pm (AEST)
(4) NIKAU SPUR ($3.60) – small field that will likely be a tactical affair so I’m hoping they don’t loaf in front and he ends up last from the wide gate needing to overhaul them. His last three runs suggest to me that he wants every bit of 2200m now and he gets that today. Three-back he beat home GALIFIANAKIS and COUP DE TONNERE when he was strong through the line over 1815m before going to 1835m two-back running third to TONY BE (beat LINTHORPE LAD that day) when he made an early move and was collared late (came again on the wire). Won nicely LS beating home LINTHORPE LAD and MUBARIZ (ties in) and actually comes down 0.5kg due to the rise in grade. I think he has the best TOF and wants the extra trip as referenced. Go well (2 units win)
(6) GAILIFIANAKIS ($2.50) – Early favourite in this small field who is unbeaten over this trip and gets in light with THOMPSON in the saddle. Rises in class, so will need to bring best to compete here. Too short for my liking, but can run a nice race.

Race 6: Stronger At Aquis Hcp 1350m at 2:53pm (AEST)
(3) SPIN DOCTOR ($4.00) – comes through one of the key lead-up races when he ran third to TIGER SHARK (beaten less than 2L) and DEEP RESPECT (also here). It was difficult to run on that day and he was 8th on turning for home before getting to the middle of the track (not best going / on-speed advantage / nearer lanes best place to be). He defied the pattern and was one of the runs of the race. DEEP RESPECT had the run of the race and was down near the fence yet he only beat him home by half a length. Second-up today so he’ll take improvement from the run and he draws a nice gate to sit closer to the speed. He can win (2 units win)
(5) KITRI ($11/$2.70) – I thought she was a nice blow-out hope in the race. She has form behind ACRES AWAY which ties in with IN EVIDENCE and SURREAL ASCOT. She was a bit hesitant to take the run when the gaps appeared LS and was forced back to the inside while ACRES AWAY had momentum. She was strong over the line and beat the rest easily. Two back she showed an excellent TOF to win (beat SURREAL ASCOT that day) and did her best work through the line. Has a sticky gate to overcome, but gets in well after the claim, has won here before, and the extra trip looks ideal. Nice type (0.5 Win/1 Unit Place)
