NRL Cowboys vs Dolphins Tips

The second and final game of NRL Super Saturday pits two Queensland teams against one another, as the Cowboys host the Dolphins in a big game of rugby league. With both teams currently sitting inside the top 8, the result of this could have huge ramifications come September. Should be a cracking game!

Cowboys vs Dolphins Prediction & Tips: 2025 NRL Round 15

Can the Cowboys Keep This Close Without Their Origin Quartet?

The Cowboys will be without four of their stars due to Origin, as Tom Dearden, Reuben Cotter, Reece Robson, and Jeremiah Nanai will all line up next Wednesday for Origin 2. It comes at a tough time for the home side, with their only win since late April coming against a Tigers team that they had buried to rights, and still nearly lost. Last week, the Cowboys took on the Storm in Melbourne and were totally outplayed, going down 38-14. With 42 missed tackles and 16 errors not helping, the Cowboys are in desperate need of a victory here, but it won’t be easy given the talent missing.

Are the Dolphins the Dark Horse of the Competition?

The Dolphins meanwhile are one of the form teams of the competition, with their last two games resulting in blowout wins against the Bulldogs (44-8) and Dragons (56-6). The win last week against the Dragons was possibly the most dominant of the season, as the Dolphins doubled the yardage of the Dragons, whilst breaking the line 8 times on their way to the franchise’s largest ever win. Halfback Isaiya Katoa continued his tremendous form, setting up two tries whilst also having the ball on a string with his general play kicking. Herbie Farnworth continued his tremendous form, scoring two tries and running for over 200 metres. This was Herbie’s seventh straight game with at least one try, can he keep it up this week?

Cowboys vs Dolphins Recent History

The Cowboys and Dolphins have met on four occasions since the Dolphins came into the competition in 2023, with the record currently sitting at 2-2. Interestingly, the road team has won all four times. Last season, the team’s first met in Round 1 at Suncorp Stadium, with the Cowboys closing 4.5-point road favourites, with a total of 43.5. The Cowboys were dominant on the road, winning 43-18 to kick start their 2024 season. The teams met again in Round 9 in Townsville, with the Cowboys this time closing 8.5-point favourites, with a total of 49.5. In a tremendous back-and-forth battle, the Dolphins got out of Townsville with the two points, winning 28-26.

Dolphins to Continue Their Surge Up the Ladder

The Cowboys were listed as 2.5-point home favourites on the lookahead, before re-opening as 4.5-point dogs after last weekend’s matches and the State of Origin teams were announced. Money has continued coming in on the Dolphins, as they now sit as 5.5-point road favourites. Whilst the Cowboys are without four Origin stars, the Dolphins will be without fullback Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, with Jake Averillo set to deputise for him at fullback. Three weeks ago, the Dolphins were without the Hammer, and smashed the Bulldogs 44-8. They have shown they can manage good teams without their most electric player, and I believe they will get the job done again here this week. I make the Dolphins a full 8-point favourite and love them here under a converted try.

Looking towards the total, and it opened 49.5 where it has stayed throughout the week. I make a fair total 49, and as such don’t see a great deal of value here. The Cowboys have been an overs team, with seven of their 12 games going over, whilst the Dolphins have played more unders, with only five of their 13 games going over the total. I’d lean under, but no bet here on the total.

Dolphins -5.5

$1.91 (1.5 Units)

Cowboys vs Dolphins Player Prop Bet: Farnworth the Eighth Wonder

It’s hard not to just throw your money at Herbie to score a try right now. Not a whole lot of analysis needs to go into this, but Herbie will be taking on the weaker right edge of the Cowboys. Farnworth to score seems like taking money from the books lately, and I’ll back him to score in an eighth straight game.

Herbie Farnworth (1+ try)

Cowboys vs Dolphins Same Game Multi

Leg 1: Dolphins (13+) – It’s highly likely the Dolphins run away with this one in my opinion. In the Dolphins six wins this year, they have won five by a margin of 13+.

Leg 2: H Farnworth (1+ try) – As above, Farnworth to score in his eighth straight.

Leg 3: R Derby (1+ try) – Derby has turned into a real finisher for the Cowboys this season, with eight tries in 10 games. Pencil him in for another here.
