Canterbury Racing Tips: Wednesday, July 9th 2025
Race 3: Asahi Super Dry BM64 - 1200m – 2:00pm (AEST)
(1) Hawker Hall $6.00/$2.80: 3YO Gelding who we were with last start, but he just went too hard too early and tired badly. Drops back in trip and in grade now which looks ideal. Draws ideally in pole position and Tommy BERRY gets back on top. Proven on the heavy which boosts confidence. Value
(3) Signor Tortoni $2.30: Freshened 3YO gelding who has been sound in all of his career runs. Appears to be a genuine wet tracker and was fantastic winning over this trip last start to break maiden. Won by 4L and started as short as $1.10. Looks ready to go on with it now. Hard to beat.
(4) Superhero $6.00/$2.70: 3YO Gelding who has also been freshened up and was handy over this trip/grade three runs back on the heavy deck when starting at $3.30 lugging 60kg. Gets in light this time with the 2kg claim. Last start was over 1400m in BM72 class and he finished second behind Kyeerna. Back in class and well weighted for this. Must be considered.
(4) Superhero E/W
$6.00/$2.70 (1U/2U)
Race 5: Hyland Race Colours BM72 - 1100m – 3:10pm (AEST)
(3) Cassiel $2.30: 4YO Gelding who boasts a pretty tidy record and has returned in superb order winning first up by 1.3L and then second up by 2.5L over 1100m. Remains at this trip and will only be fitter. This is obviously tougher, but draws well and has to be considered off his recent runs. Untested on the heavy, but is a previous winner on the soft, so should be okay in the conditions. The one to beat.
(5) Vegas Raider $9.00/$2.50: 5YO Gelding who hasn’t been disgraced in his two return runs. He gets back to Canterbury now where he won nicely over this trip/grade to end his campaign last time round. Only gets an extra kilo on his back from that run. Draws okay and Jay FORD is back on top who is 1 from 1. Value.
(8) Desi Emperor $9.00/$2.50: 5YO Gelding who has returned in good order running second three times ina row before putting them to the sword last start winning by 1.5L over this trip at Hawkesbury. Keegan LATHAM remains in the saddle and this fella is racing in some of his best form. Rock hard fit and draws a gun alley. Will be up on the speed and will be giving plenty late. Big sniff at odds.
(3) Cassiel WIN
$2.30 (4 Units)
Race 6: Broadsiding @ Darley BM72 – 1250m - 3:45pm (AEST)
(3) Hanau $4.50: 4YO gelding who returned nicely over 1200m in this grade only narrowly being beaten. Gets in lighter this time round with the 2kg claim and gets a much better barrier. Will only be improving off that run and looks a great chance. The heavy conditions the only concern.
(7) Braveheart $4.00: 3YO Gelding who was pretty good when resuming over 1100m. He hit the line aggressively from the rear and was only half a length off the winner. Big gaps to fourth. Second up now where he is a proven winner and goes well on the wet track. Has to be the one to beat off that effort and with previous form.
(13) The Replicant $31.00/$7.00: 6YO Gelding who looks to be the roughie of the field. Genuine wet tracker with good form on the heavy deck. 9: 1-5-1. Placed on all three occasions over this trip and twice when at this track. Genuinely runs well second up and with only 54kg on his back he must be considered. Drawn nicely and gets Jeff PENZA into the saddle. Worth a penny each way.
Also Backing: (13) The Replicant E/W $31/$7.00 (0.5 Units)
(7) Braveheart WIN
$4.00 (2 Units)
