With another dominant performance from Max Verstappen behind us, we head to Montreal, for the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix. With Verstappen now 53 points clear of teammate Sergio Perez, the Dutchman looks a certainty to claim his 3rd straight Drivers Championship. Can anyone stop him this weekend?

Spanish Grand Prix Review
As mentioned above, Verstappen dominated last time out at the Spanish Grand Prix, leading from start to finish, eventually beating Lewis Hamilton by 24 seconds. The Mercedes pair of Hamilton and George Russell highlighted the improvements made with the Mercedes upgrade, as they now look as close as any team to matching the Red Bull. It was another solid result for Alpine, with both drivers finishing inside the top 10.
It was a particularly poor showing from Charles Leclerc, with the Monegasque finishing 11th, barely on the lead lap. There are serious issues at the Scuderia, with only one podium finish all season for the team.
Canadian Grand Prix Preview
Who can beat Max, that is the question. The only answer I can come up with, is his team, or more accurately, his car. If Max finishes without any major hiccups, he wins. He has the measure of teammate Sergio Perez, despite some solid early races from the Mexican, and now is in a league of his own. I can’t bet on anyone besides Max Verstappen to win this race, so I won’t. I believe Max will once again be fastest all weekend, take Pole Position, and win the race.
Moving on, the Mercedes pair of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were impressive last time out in Spain. The Mercedes proved to easily be the second fastest race car, and I believe they will be pushing the Aston Martin for that honour again this weekend. Lewis Hamilton has won here 7 times, including winning his first ever Formula 1 race at this venue, and I can see Lewis achieving a third podium of the 2023 season.
Further down, I like the Alpine pair of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly to be competitive. Last season, the Alpine was particularly impressive around the streets of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, with Alonso starting 2nd on the grid. Ocon and Gasly have both been in good form, so a double points finish is on the cards this weekend.
Finally, for a bit of a flier, I like Alexander Albon to have a decent result this weekend. There’s usually some carnage at the Canadian Grand Prix, which could help (or hinder) the young Brit’s chances. The circuit is also one for power and top end speed, and the Williams has typically shown to be strong in these two areas this season. Just a small one, but something to look for further down the field.
