Boxing: Tim Tszyu vs Terrell Gausha Preview & Betting Tips

March 23rd 2022, 2:18pm, By: admin

Tim Tszyu

It's not often we'll write about boxing here on Before You Bet, but when the son of Australian boxing royalty makes his debut in the United States, it's worth talking about!

Tim Tszyu, son of Hall of Famer Kosta Tszyu, takes on former US Olympian Terrell Gausha this weekend in an intriguing matchup. Our US boxing expert Victor Salazar breaks down the fight and brings his his boxing betting tips below.

Tim Tszyu vs Terrell Gausha Preview & Betting Tips

Sunday March 27th, from 11am AEDST

Tim Tszyu makes his US debut as an overwhelming favourite against Terrell Gausha, however this fight is an interesting one on many levels. For starters, Tszyu is making his US debut, headlining a US card on a US network. That's a big deal when Tszyu has spent his entire career fighting at home in Australia.

Tszyu comes in with a big reputation and an undefeated record  (20-0, 15 KO’s) but Australians should beware as Gausha is no slouch. Gausha is a 2012 US Olympian with an impressive professional record (22-2-1, 11 KO’s). His three blemishes were against top competition and he has yet to be stopped at any point in his career. His only two losses came to Erickson Lubin and to former 154-pound champion Erislandy Lara, while he drew with Austin Trout.

As always with boxing, you should tread carefully with your punting. Premier Boxing Champions, the Al Haymon outfit that has collaborated primarily with the Showtime and Fox Networks, also are promoting the event. Al Haymon has also managed Gausha since he turned pro after the Olympics. We're not saying to expect funny business but when placing money on fights, that is always something to consider.

Tim Tszyu did not have to come to the United States, or take this fight, because he is the mandatory for Brian Castano’s WBO 154 world title. But while he waits for Castano, he is taking a risky fight against Gausha who as we mentioned before isn’t quite top level but on the fringe.

Tim Tszyu has the pedigree, the technique, and above average power. Gausha has never been stopped and himself has the pedigree and technique. So the factor that I think will be the most significant in this fight is activity.

Gausha has not fought since last year, while Tim Tszyu has fought three times last year and his last fight was only five months ago. Tim Tszyu may just be a little sharper than his opponent here.

Tszyu has to give Gausha some variety in his attack if he is to win this fight. Had Gausha been more active recently, then his underdogs odds would appeal, given his experience facing better competition. However Tszyu should win this fight, but Gausha’s pedigree should see him through to the final bell.
