Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Sixers

Perth Scorchers

Predicted XI: Stephen Eskinazi, Sam Whiteman, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis, Laurie Evans, Cooper Connolly, Nick Hobson, Ashton Agar, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Lance Morris

The Scorchers ended the Brisbane Heat’s undefeated season on Saturday, with a 35 run win thanks to a huge performance from their bowling attack. The Heat looked in control at 1/67 in pursuit of the target of 164, before AJ Tye (4/14) and Lance Morris (3/26) turned the tide as the Scorchers bowled out for 128. The win secured the Scorchers place in the finals, however this fixture will decide if they get a double chance or play in a sudden death final against the Strikers.

The Scorchers have three of the top seven wicket takers in the competition with Lance Morris (13 wickets, 3rd), Jason Behrendorff (12 wickets, 5th) and AJ Tye (11 wickets, 7th). Outside of Aaron Hardie their batting hasn’t been at its usual best this season for what we expect from the Scorchers, but with Laurie Evans and Josh Inglis beginning to hit form, the Scorchers having a batting unit that is capable of putting up big scores

Although Jhye Richardson will miss the remainder of the season with a side strain, and Zak Crawley has left for national duties the Scorchers still have an eleven that is more than capable of winning the title. Seven of the eleven players who lined up for the Scorchers on Saturday featured in the BBL12 winning side.

Sydney Sixers

Predicted XI: Josh Philippe, James Vince, Daniel Hughes, Moises Henriques, Jordan Silk, Jack Edwards, Hayden Kerr, Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis, Todd Murphy, Stephen O'Keefe

The Sixers will make at least one change from their 19 run win over the Thunder on Friday night as Steve Smith heads back on national duties, with Daniel Hughes the likely replacement. The win gives the Sixers an opportunity to face the Heat in The Qualifier, if they can defeat the Scorchers on Tuesday night. Hayden Kerr’s return to the side has given the Sixers more flexibility after Tom Curran was ruled out for the remainder of the season through injury. Kerr gives the Sixers a genuine allrounder at number 7, which will continue to enable the Sixers to play 2 spinners throughout the finals series.

Stephen O’Keefe wound back the clock to help the Sixers defend a modest target of 152, with the veteran taking 3/13 including the key wickets of Warner, Hales and Bancroft. Ben Dwarisuis (1/17) and Todd Murphy (0/15) provided crucial contributions with the ball reigning back the Thunder after they started at 0/44 after four overs.

The Sixers have been the second most economical side in BBL13, conceding an average 7.48 runs per over this season. The Sixers haven’t conceded about 157 runs in their last three completed bowling innings. Stephen O’Keefe has the best economy rate of any bowler in the competition that has bowled at least 10 overs, with an economy rate of just 6.08 runs per over.

Match Prediction

The Scorchers and Sixers have played in an abundance of high stakes fixtures, however the Scorchers have consistently found a way to come out on top. The Scorchers have won six of their last seven games against the Sixers, and have won four out of the five meetings between the two sides at Optus Stadium.

The Scorchers are 17-1 at home since the beginning of BBL10, and are scoring at a run rate of 9.3 runs per over in games at Optus Stadium in BBL13.  The Scorchers possess three of the league’s top thirteen run scorers in Aaron Hardie, Laurie Evans and Josh Inglis, which gives them a big advantage in conditions they’ve dominated in.
