Bendigo Cup Racing Tips: Wednesday October 26th

October 25th 2022, 2:33pm, By: Brendan Bunworth

Bendigo Cup Racing Tips

Race seven at Bendigo sees the running of the Group 3 Bendigo Cup on Wednesday and despite a small field of just eight runners, there does look to be some value about.

The track is rated a Heavy 9 at the time of writing and a further 10mls of rain is predicted to sweep across the region on the day.

Crystal Pegasus and High Emocean will use this race as their final hit-out before possibly running in the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday.

Brendan Bunworth brings you his best from the card.

Bendigo Racing Tips: Wednesday, October 26th

Race 2

(1) Zamborghini for Matt Laurie and Craig Newitt is down in class after running unplaced in two Group 3 races his last two starts. They were on wet tracks, and he is likely to face similar conditions here, but I don’t think Laurie would run him on the surface again if he didn’t think he could handle it. Since those runs, he has won a trial in good fashion and Newitt should be able to put him in a good position from barrier five. The stable is in good form too having had two winners at Casterton on Monday.

(6) Deekay will likely go forward again like he did last start when winning by 3L on Pakenham Synthetic. He has placed on the Soft before but like many of these is a bit of an unknown on the Heavy.

(7) Veloce Carro is one from one on the Heavy and from barrier one he should be able to settle in a similar position as last start (2nd early) when winning at Cranbourne over 1300m.

(9) Street Delight is down in class and is capable on Soft tracks but is an unknown on the Heavy. She has been unplaced her last four runs, but the Wilde Team do think she can run a bit.

(1) Zamborghini WIN

$3.40 (1 Unit)

Race 3

(3) Outback Jack hasn't won in his last ten starts, but he is knocking on the door for a win after four placings from a spell. He seems to go well on any surface and with the appointment of Damien Oliver on board again, he does seem like he will be very hard to beat in this one. He remains at 2400m despite finding it a bit too far at Geelong last start when third, but he is fitter and stronger now.

(6) Redsong will get back in this race but should appreciate the long Bendigo home straight. He runs a strong 2400m and did hit the line well at Flemington two starts back when third on Heavy ground.

(4) Border Leicester almost got there at The Valley last time when second and he does appreciate Heavy ground. Each-way odds look appealing, and he is one from one on the track.

(5) Whirly Jig for Kevin Keys is better than the form guide reads but does have a wide barrier (12).

(3) Outback Jack WIN

$2.60 (2 Units)

Race 7 (Bendigo Cup)

(3) High Emocean for the Maher & Eustace team was sixth in the Bart Cummings last start but was only beaten a length and a half in what was a pretty useful run leading up to this. The stable still has one eye on a possible Melbourne Cup run so the preparation does seem to be going well. She does settle back in her races so will want a bit of speed on in the big one of the day, but the long straight will assist her in winding up late. She has no issues with wet tracks and has won three of four over the distance.

(7) Port Phillip is in excellent form having won his last four starts, but this is his toughest assignment yet. He is one from one at the distance though and does love the wet. A win wont shock.

(2) Glint of Hope is an unknown on the Heavy ground but is ready to perform at her best fourth up from a spell. It’s her first try over the distance but all indicators lead to her cherishing it.

(1). Crystal Pegasus returns to Group 3 racing after competing in a Group 1 race last start (Caulfield Cup). Even though he was 14th he certainly wasn't disgraced only beaten 6L. Wet ground is a query, but he does have Waller training him. Again, a win wouldn't surprise.

(3) High Emocean WIN

$3.40 (1 Unit)

Race 9

(1) Polanco has got me again here after I sacked it a few weeks ago. Despite his sixth beaten 4.9L last time that was in a better race than this and Keats and Gunstock who placed in that race have gone on to win easily in their recent outings. Polanco can handle the wet. Two runs ago he was sixth at Caulfield, again a good run in which Cardinal Gem placed. The Cardinal went on to win at its next start. Interesting race. Carrying 59kg is the negative.

(3) Sharp Response is one from one on the Heavy and the rise in distance looks ideal.

(10) No Surrender will settle on speed and does like the wet tracks. Will need a slowly run race though.

(11) Torgene carries four kilos less than my on topper and is two from two on the Heavy.

(1) Polanco WIN

$13 (2 Units)
