2023 AFL Round 23 Expert Tips
Friday August 18th
It's a cracking fixture to begin the round with Collingwood taking on Brisbane in a battle between the top two sides on the ladder. The Magpies can shore up the minor premiership with a win, while the Lions will be eyeing off a top-two finish but would also love to secure a rare victory in Melbourne ahead of the finals.
Saturday August 19th
Richmond will farewell a couple of premiership heroes in this one, with Trent Cotchin and Jack Riewoldt both calling time on their stellar careers. It looks like a great match to say goodbye as the Tigers should surely get the better of the dismal Kangaroos.
The Suns kissed their finals hopes goodbye last weekend but will still want to finish off the season the right way; however, doing so will be tough as they're set to welcome the form team of the competition to Queensland this weekend. Will the Blues secure yet another win and lock in an elusive finals berth?
After having their lengthy win streak broken a couple of weeks ago, the Giants now find themselves in the midst of a form slump at the wrong part of the season. They'll need to get back on the winners list at home this weekend to stay in the touch with the top eight, but might not find it easy against another team fighting for their finals lives in the Bombers.
St Kilda secured an important win against Richmond last weekend but will need to back it up against Geelong in what looms as a do-or-die match for both teams. Will the Saints end the Cats premiership defence this weekend, or can the old warriors lift themselves over the line one more time?
Despite suffering what seemed like a season-ending loss against the Lions last weekend, the Crows finals hopes remained alive due to a couple of rival teams doing them some favours. However, there won't be any more chances and they simply have to win this game against the Swans who would also love to tick over the win column again.
Sunday August 20th
Looking comfortable with their spot in the top eight only a couple of weeks ago, the Bulldogs now have it all to play for as they hang onto eighth position by a thread. Luckily, they will take on the Eagles this weekend who are one of the worst teams in AFL history.
A match against Hawthorn would be seen as a favourable draw in the AFL a month or so ago, but that isn't the case heading into Round 23 after they've knocked off two top eight sides on the spin. The Demons will need to ensure they're on the top of their game so they don't suffer a similar fate.
Finishing off what's sure to be another exciting round in the AFL is a clash between Fremantle and Port Adelaide at Optus Stadium in Perth. The Power managed to find some of their better form against the Giants last weekend and will be desperate to back it up with another win to bolster their chances of finishing in the top two
