AFL Round 22 begins on Friday night with a blockbuster clash between Collingwood and Geelong at the MCG - what a way to get the weekend's proceedings underway! Super Saturday will follow with the usual five-game slate on the cards, while Sunday will conclude the round with three matches scheduled for the usual time slots. With this being the third last round of the home and away season, you can expect to see some of the best and most competitive matches of the year!

2023 AFL Round 22 Expert Tips
Friday August 11th
The stakes are high in the first match of Round 22 which sees Collingwood take on Geelong at the MCG on Friday night. The Magpies are in the midst of a dip in form and are in danger of coughing up top spot on the ladder unless they turn things around, while the Cats are simply playing for the finals lives.
Saturday August 12th
Sydney’s resurgence in the second half of the season has somewhat flown under the radar, and a win on Saturday at Gold Coast will only increase their chances of making the top eight. Meanwhile, every match from here on end is do-or-die for the Suns whose finals hopes are hanging by a thread.
North Melbourne haven’t been able to buy a win this season but may smell a bit of blood in the water with a matchup with Essendon on the cards. The Bombers almost lost the unlosable against the Eagles last weekend and won’t want to put in a similar performance with their finals chances on the line once again this weekend.
Brisbane ticked a key box last weekend when they were able to win away against Fremantle. They now return to the fortress that is the Gabba where they’re yet to lose in 2023. However, coming to visit is a plucky Crows side that are in desperate need of a win. This match has sneaky match of the round potential.
Carlton have been the hottest team in the competition for a number of weeks now, but have another massive test on their hands this weekend when they take on Melbourne at the MCG. Will the Baggers finally get a reality check or are they just simply unstoppable right now?
West Coast almost pulled off a random win against Essendon last weekend that would’ve seen them cough up the #1 pick in the draft. Are they actually still trying to win matches or was last week a one-off? We’ll find out this weekend when they take on rivals Fremantle in the Western Derby!
Sunday August 13th
Hawthorn completed one of the surprise wins of the season last weekend when they defeated premiership favourites Collingwood by a comfortable margin. The Hawks have shown terrific improvement throughout the season and have another chance to take down a quality side in the Western Bulldogs in Round 22. This could be an interesting watch down in Tassie!
St Kilda have fallen away in the second half of the season and are now facing an uphill battle to hold onto their spot in the top eight. This weekend’s match against Richmond will go a long way to determining their fate. This should be a great battle between two desperate sides.
Are Port Adelaide finished? Since having their 13-match win streak they’ve gone and lost four in a row. Thankfully, they’re set to welcome back some of their key players from injury this weekend, but that doesn’t guarantee them a win against a seriously talented and determined GWS outfit. It’s a fantastic match to finish another exciting round!
