June 8th 2024, 12:16am, By: Jesse Penfold

AFL Fantasy Tips

Round 13 for the 2024 AFL Premiership Season brings another three-game slate for our Super Saturday on this long weekend. There are plenty of juicy contests for us to attack in daily fantasy kicking things off in the early afternoon with the storming Hawks hosting the GWS Giants down at UTAS Stadium in Launceston. Then West Coast will host North Melbourne over at Optus Stadium in what will likely be a popular game stack option. Then the nightcap will see the Saints attempt to win two in a row as they play the Gold Coast Suns in Marvel with the Suns looking to hold onto their spot in the top eight.

Draftstars continue to offer massive prize pools with the Saturday main contest being worth $50,000 along with their usual variety of alternate contests:

  • AFL $50,000+ Saturday
  • AFL $5,000+ Saturday High Roller ($150 Entry)
  • AFL $3,000+ Saturday Mini ($2 Entry)

The AFL Star contest is back for 2024 and Draftstars are offering the biggest prize pool in Australian DFS history with a $1 million guaranteed final with $250,000 top prize! There are qualifiers and satellites running for every AFL match, while there will also be a sprinkling of qualifiers across other sports such as NRL and NBA.

Meanwhile the 1000 AFL Target contests are set to return to Draftstars for the first time since 2018. Enter the contest and hit the 1000-point barrier with your team to scoop the jackpot!

Weather

Launceston – 14 degrees and partly cloudy

Perth – 21 degrees and high chance of showers

Out in Perth it is expected to be wet for the game going by the game total points so keep an eye through the day, it is not expected to be an amount of rain that would heavily impede the players at this point.

Where to Attack?

West Coast are the biggest favourites on this slate at over 20 points against the winless North Melbourne. Stacking up the Eagles forwards at home looks to be a very positive play in this matchup with the Kangaroos giving up almost 10 points per game above league average to key forwards – the highest mark in the league.

St Kilda have been the obvious team to target with backs for over a season and half now and things are not changing at all. Their structures allow for the opposition to rack up across all positions in the back line. They are giving up the most points in the league to designated kickers, general defenders and attacking half backs/wings.

Game Script – West Coast forwards, Gold Coast backs

VALUE PLAYS

Dom Sheed ($9,590) has seen his price rise from the bare minimum last week after he put in an 88 fantasy point game. But he still looks to be a great value play on this slate as the Eagles continue to be lacking inside midfielders and Sheed attending 88% of the Eagles centre bounces last week, which was his highest mark of the season so far. This week they will be without Harley Reid who was in 82% of the centre bounces and Tim Kelly is yet to return, so there will be plenty of opportunity for midfield time in the Eagles team this week.

David Swallow ($6,000) there has to be the sub watch caveat in this one after last week shocked plenty of DFS players. But it’s certainly unlikely that we see Swallow as the sub two weeks in a row, just be ready for a switch if that is the case (you may need to roster him up forward if you are worried). If he isn’t the sub, Swallow becomes one of the more obvious low-priced plays you will get with scores of 55, 85 and 49 from his last three full games. I love the matchup if he gets some time down back as well.

If you are nervous about Swallow, I like going to Chesser Campbell ($6,000) at the same price as he is showing more and more each week and should have some upside if the Eagles get a big win against North Melbourne.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Alex Sexton ($11,970) stands out an elite play on this slate given the matchup. Sexton has been racking up across half back since he returned to the senior side posting scores of 102, 81, 126 and 88 from his last four matches after getting called up from the VFL. As we noted above the Saints concede the most points in the league to each line across the backs and stacking up the Suns backline will be an obvious and popular play.

There are some options for mid-priced rucks on this slate if you do not wish to spend up at that position. Matt Flynn ($10,850) looked great in his first game of the season last week for the Eagles and posted 89 fantasy points despite on attending 28% of the team’s centre bounces, a number that will surely sky rocket as he gets more games. Ned Moyle ($10,030) is also another option to consider in this price range, averaging 80 points in his three games played this season, he will draw the best fantasy matchup in the league for rucks this week.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Sam Flanders ($16,030) is the obvious premium play on this slate. He has a licence to just fill up in the half back line for the Gold Coast Suns and his lowest score is 98 points from his last 8 weeks. As noted all through this preview, this is the best matchup in the league for his role with the Saints giving up over 12 points per game above league average to the designated kicker.

If you are looking to spend up through the midfield rather than the back line, a sneaky play I like is Luke Davies-Uniacke ($15,020) who’s starting to come into form after a slow start to the season, and the Eagles are starting to league points to inside midfielders more as the year goes on.

Jake Waterman ($12,390) has been one of the absolute revelations of the season this year. Making a leap to one of the top key forwards in the competition and being in the running for Coleman is something no one would have forecast going into 2024. He has shown plenty of upside at this price point with 120+ and 140+ point games in his last 6 matches, and he is the first player rostered in building my Eagles forward stacks against this horrific North Melbourne back line.
