The Presidents Cup returns this weekend as the United States and International Team head to Medinah Country Club outside Chicago for the 16th edition of the biennial team event. Brandt Snedeker captains an American side attempting to continue its remarkable dominance of the competition, while Geoff Ogilvy leads an International Team searching for its first victory since 1998.
The United States enters as the defending champion after winning 18.5-11.5 at Royal Montreal in 2024 and has now claimed 10 consecutive Presidents Cups. There are 30 points available across four days at Medinah, beginning with five Four-ball matches on Thursday before five Foursomes on Friday, eight matches across two sessions on Saturday and the decisive 12 Singles matches on Sunday.

The Teams
The Americans once again possess tremendous depth, with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler joined by the likes of Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark, Sam Burns, Russell Henley, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay and Justin Thomas. Snedeker also has some new blood at his disposal, with Chris Gotterup, Jacob Bridgeman and Jackson Koivun making their Presidents Cup debuts.
The Internationals will lean heavily on their established stars, with Hideki Matsuyama, Adam Scott, Si Woo Kim, Sungjae Im and Tom Kim providing previous Presidents Cup experience. Min Woo Lee returns for his second appearance, while Ryan Fox, Nico Echavarria, Ryo Hisatsune, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Nick Taylor are among those making their debuts. Captain Ogilvy also has a unique connection to this week's venue after his OCM design firm led the extensive renovation of Medinah's Course No. 3.
History remains heavily in favour of the Americans, who own a 13-1-1 overall record and have not lost the event since 1998. However, the Internationals have plenty of players capable of causing problems in match play, and the challenge will be finding enough productive partnerships across the opening four sessions before all 24 players compete in Sunday's Singles.
The Course
Medinah Country Club's Course No. 3 provides the stage, but this is a significantly different layout from the one most golf fans remember from the 2012 Ryder Cup or 2019 BMW Championship. Ogilvy, Mike Cocking and Ashley Mead oversaw a dramatic redesign that doubled the fairway area, expanded the average green size by more than 40 per cent and increased the number of bunkers from 70 to 117.
The wider fairways provide players with more options from the tee, but accuracy will still be important. Thick rough has been introduced immediately outside the fairways, while steep bunkering and several out-of-bounds areas can heavily punish poor drives. The large, contoured greens and collection areas should also reward creativity and precise approach play, creating plenty of opportunities for momentum swings in match play.
The Presidents Cup routing has also been changed to maximise the chances of the most dramatic holes featuring late in matches. The risk-reward par-4 12th can be shortened to around 320 yards and tempt players to challenge Lake Kadijah from the tee, while the 217-yard par-3 13th requires a committed carry across the water. With several holes offering distinctly different strategies depending on the format, Medinah should be an excellent venue for four days of team golf.

USA to Win
The Americans have dominated this competition historically and once again bring exceptional depth from the top of the roster to the bottom. Scheffler provides the obvious spearhead, but Snedeker can also call upon proven match-play performers such as Thomas, Cantlay, Schauffele and Morikawa alongside some of the strongest players from the 2026 PGA TOUR season. The Internationals have enough talent to make this competitive, but across 30 matches, the depth of the United States makes them our pick to retain the Presidents Cup.
Min Woo Lee - Top International Points Scorer
Lee looks an intriguing option to lead the Internationals after gaining valuable experience on debut at Royal Montreal in 2024. His aggressive style should translate particularly well to Four-ball around the redesigned Medinah, where wide fairways and several risk-reward holes allow players to attack. If Ogilvy gives the Australian a prominent role across the team sessions, Lee has the firepower to generate plenty of birdies before carrying that momentum into Sunday's Singles.

Justin Thomas - Top USA Points Scorer
Thomas has built an excellent reputation in American team golf and returns to a venue where he has already enjoyed enormous individual success. He won the 2019 BMW Championship at Medinah after firing a course-record 61 and finishing at 25-under, albeit before the extensive renovation of Course No. 3. His experience, aggressive approach and suitability to both Four-ball and Foursomes should give Snedeker plenty of reasons to use him regularly, providing Thomas with the opportunity to accumulate points throughout the week.
