2026 FIFA World Cup Outright Winner Tips: Odds, Contenders & Best Bets

June 2nd 2026, 5:10pm, By: Jake Smit

World Cup Betting Tips

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is finally here. The tournament kicks off on Friday, June 12 at 5:00am AEST with co-hosts Mexico taking on South Africa at the Estadio Azteca. For Australian punters, it means a massive month of early mornings and some incredibly deep betting markets.

The big change this time is the expansion to a 48-team format. With the addition of a Round of 32, teams now face a gruelling eight-match gauntlet to lift the trophy at MetLife Stadium on July 20 (AEST). For futures betting, this structural shift changes everything.

Here is our look at the Outright Winner market, featuring where the genuine value hides and our betting strategies.

2026 FIFA World Cup Outright Winner Tips: Odds, Contenders & Best Bets

2026 World Cup Outright Betting Odds

Securing early value is the key to a profitable futures book. Here is how the top of the market shapes up with Australian sportsbooks as we approach the opening match.

Spain ($5.50 at Bets365) – Market favourites with elite possession metrics.

France ($6.00 at Dabble) – Deepest squad in the world and tournament-proven.

England ($7.00 at Bet365) – Massive attacking talent but major tactical question marks under pressure.

Brazil ($9.00 at Neds) – Explosive in transition but carrying defensive stability concerns.

Argentina ($9.00 at Bet365) – Reigning champions holding invaluable tournament experience.

Portugal ($11.00 at Ladbrokes) – Highly balanced roster with excellent dark horse potential.

Germany ($15.00 at Bet365) – Traditional powerhouse sitting at a massive value price.

Netherlands ($21.00 at Dabble) – Rigid side relying heavily on defensive stars.

Odds are correct at the time of writing. The outright market closes at 5:00am AEST on Friday, June 12.

Breaking Down the Favourites

To build a winning portfolio, we need to separate genuine contenders from overhyped public sides at the top of the market.

Spain ($5.50)

Spain’s high-possession style functions as a defensive shield - teams cannot score if they never have the ball. This saves legs over a long tournament, but at $5.50, the bookies aren't giving anything away. Their lack of a ruthless, clinical number nine means they can struggle to break down low blocks in knockout football. Pass at this price.

France ($6.00)

If this expanded tournament is won by the team with the best bench, France is the clear target. Their second-string XI would start for almost any other country. They can press high, sit in a suffocating mid-block, or completely devastate teams on the counter. This is the most adaptable squad in world football.

England ($7.00)

England’s front half looks terrifying on paper, but under pressure in the late knockout stages, they historically drop into an overly conservative defensive shell. A price of 7.00 leaves zero room for error. Public money always compresses their odds below their true mathematical probability.

Argentina ($9.00)

Argentina boasts unmatched chemistry and the psychological edge of winning the last tournament. However, their core unit is ageing and backing them to survive an expanded eight-game run in the summer heat is a risky proposition for a primary stake.

Brazil ($9.00)

Brazil has the youth and explosive athleticism required for this demanding format. Their attacking line can dismantle any defensive system, but they remain prone to structural lapses when caught in transition against structured European midfields.

Tournament Winner Best Bet: France

Quite simply the most complete roster in international football. Their ability to rotate world-class talent during an expanded eight-game tournament gives them a massive structural advantage over their direct rivals.

The Value Tier: Where the Smart Money Sits

The real goal is finding double-digit teams with the pedigree to make a deep run, setting up profitable hedging opportunities later on.

Germany ($15.00)

Germany is flying under the radar, which is exactly when they are most dangerous. They have quietly re-engineered their midfield engine room, combining elite young playmakers with physical ball-winners. Placed in a highly manageable Group E, they should build momentum early. A price of $15.00 is a significant overlay for a powerhouse nation that knows how to navigate tournament football.

Portugal ($11.00)

Portugal is no longer a one-man show. They have evolved into one of the most balanced, highly structured teams in international football, with world-class depth at centre-back and creative midfielders who can dictate tempos at will. At 11.00, they are prime candidates for a deep run.

Tournament Winner Value Play: Germany

The biggest price overlay in the market. They possess elite tournament pedigree, a highly balanced midfield unit, and a favourable group draw that should allow them to shorten significantly in price by the time the knockout rounds commence.

The Aussie Angle: Socceroos Group Stage Strategy

The Aussies aren't lifting the trophy on July 20, but there is still plenty of money to be made on them. The Socceroos find themselves in Group D alongside the USA, Paraguay, and Turkey. While it’s a challenging draw, Australia's trademark defensive discipline, physical conditioning, and structured set-pieces make them a tough team to play against.

While their outright winner price is a massive $501, the smart money belongs in the qualification market where they are well-placed to progress.
