PGA Tour: Rocket Classic Betting Tips

The PGA Tour heads to Detroit this week for the Rocket Classic, an event that has quickly cemented itself as a midseason fan favorite thanks to low scores, drama-filled Sundays, and a setting that rewards bold shot-making.

PGA Tour: Rocket Classic Betting Tips

Top Contenders

Collin Morikawa ($16/Top 20 $1.83)

Morikawa is the betting favorite at around $13, buoyed by his strong play at Detroit in 2023 (lost in playoff) and his precision iron play—a key at this course. With his laser-accurate approach and steady short game, he’s well-suited to the wedge-and-putt demands of Detroit Golf Club.

Rickie Fowler ($38/Top 30 $2.15)

After a solid stretch of play this season—including multiple top-20 finishes—Fowler’s game appears tournament-ready once again. With good vibes and a proven record in these conditions, he looms as a serious contender to reclaim the title.

More Value

Cam Davis ($91/Top 40 $2.30)

The only two-time champion of this event (2021 & 2024), Davis is an obvious threat in Detroit. Though not the longest off the tee, his clutch putting and calm course management have delivered low scores and back-to-back victories here. If his flat-stick stays hot, expect him near the top again.

Ryo Hisatsune ($91/Top 40 $2.30)

The 21-year-old has four top-10 finishes in his last 13 starts and excels around the greens—especially on Ross-style layouts . He shot a solid 31st last year in his debut, and such skill with wedges on this course makes him a sleeper to break through again.

The Field

The 2025 field features a strong contingent of past champions, including two-time winner Cam Davis (who claimed titles in 2021 and 2024), 2023 champion Rickie Fowler, 2022’s Tony Finau, and 2019’s Nate Lashley. Dav‍is will look to extend his mastery at Detroit, while Fowler aims to recapture the playoff magic that ended his four-year win drought at the Michigan event.

Alongside the previous winners, the field includes several elite players seeking to fine-tune their form ahead of the post-season. Expect to see established major contenders and steady FedEx Cup point earners like Collin Morikawa, Tom Kim, and Sahith Theegala. Their strong iron play and short game will be essential at Detroit.

Additionally, players hovering around the FedEx Cup cut line should be motivated here. The tournament routinely allows golfers just outside the top‑70 to make significant moves—examples are Akshay Bhatia and Maverick McNealy, who both nearly clinched the title in 2024.

The Course

Detroit Golf Club’s North Course, a Donald Ross design, plays at roughly 7,370 yards (par-72) and has produced consistently low scoring since the event’s debut in 2019. Oversized fairways and moderate rough allow elite ball-strikers to rack up birdies, and winning scores typically dip 18 to 24 under par.

Scoring advantage leans toward wedge precision and sharp putting. With reachable par-5s and mid-length par-4s, a steady wedge game paired with hot stroke-making on the greens often separates contenders from the rest.

Weather in late June can introduce variability—humid heat or afternoon thunderstorms may soften the course, making it more receptive to precision play. If storms roll in, expect fireworks from aggressive drivers and wedge maestros as greens become receptive across the weekend.
