What a season it has been so far for the Saints. They currently sit one game clear atop the ladder as the only remaining undefeated team in the league at 4-0, but have arguably their first true test of the season on Sunday as they come up against the 3-1 Pies.
The Saints have been absolutely decimated by injury throughout the early parts of the season, but that hasn’t stopped them from maintaining the No.1 ranked defence in the league as well as setting record breaking pressure numbers through the opening four games.
Young guns in the likes of Mitch Owens, Matteas Philipou, Anthony Caminiti and Ryan Byrnes have been at the forefront of the resurgence for the Saints, while stalwart Mason Wood has been in the form of his life to start the season.
The Pies have looked equally as good this season despite losing their last game away from home against the Lions. They had impressive wins over the Cats, Power and Tigers in the first three rounds, scoring a tick over 107 points per game in those wins.
Collingwood have played a fast and free flowing game style in the first four rounds, one that is extremely aggressive but as we witnessed in their game against Brisbane on the weekend, one that is also slightly volatile and at times, risky.
The Pies are yet to face a team that applies pressure like the Saints do, and it’ll be interesting to see how that game style holds up against a team that takes space away from the ball carrier better than With these two game styles going head to head, I think there will be a lot of scoring off turnovers in this matchup, as both teams like to take the game on and play with pace, regardless of risk. Back the overs here, which I think sits a few points too low at the moment due to some inclement weather around Adelaide over the weekend.
