NRL Round 9: Friday Preview & Betting Tips

July 9th 2020, 4:01pm, By: matta91

A huge Friday night double-header is on the cards in the NRL this week. The Titans and Warriors are both in the bottom 8 but can keep their season alive with a win. Meanwhile, the Rabbitohs and Tigers should be another classic Friday night encounter.

NRL Round 9 Friday Betting Tips

Titans vs Warriors

(Fri, Jul 10 6:00pm)

Another loss for the Titans on the weekend has them sitting 15th on the ladder and their season is quickly slipping away. In last week’s defeat, they returned home to the Gold Coast and proceeded to allow 7 tries to 2 against the Sharks. They also finished with a disappointing 68% completion rate and 17 errors. There’s more bad news in team selections as well. Mitch Rein is out and Erin Clark returns to the hooker position. Tyrone Roberts is injured again and Corey Thompson will be back at fullback. The Titans also have a very makeshift centres pairing with backrowers Fermor and Cartwright.

Well done to the Warriors in a much needed win last week as they continued the Broncos woes in the 26-16 result. The New Zealanders are now just 1 win outside the top 8 despite an inconsistent season and this is a very winnable game on the Gold Coast. Ken Maumalo was the major star for the Warriors in the win as they recorded a double and 291 run metres. There’s more good news for the away side as Tuivasa-Sheck returns from suspension at fullback. That moves Hiku back into the centres. Kodi Nikorima is out with a head injury and that opens up the door for the talented Chanel Harris-Tavita. They’ll also continue to play Karl Lawton in the back row.

Robina Stadium has been like a home away from home for the Warriors as they’ve won 8 of the last 9 at this venue against the Titans. So the $1.90 odds on offer at the moment for a Warriors side that’ll be up and about after last week’s win seems very good value.

Rabbitohs vs Wests Tigers

(Fri, Jul 10 7:55pm)

South Sydney survived a tough battle with the Bulldogs last week in the 26-10 result but they sit just outside the top 8 by points difference. So this will be a huge clash with the 8th placed Tigers. Which will be a challenge considering the 4 day break and last week’s performance was sloppy at times. So Wayne Bennett will be looking for a more polished display, starting with completing their sets and limiting errors. In team news, Braidon Burns is the next Bankwest Stadium casualty and will miss the season.

In a highly competitive clash with the Panthers, the Tigers went down 19-12 but they can take confidence out of the clash. They finished with a solid 85% completion rate. But 45 missed tackles will be a disappointing stat for Michael McGuire. As well as 10 penalties conceded and an ugly display of ill-discipline by Joey Leilua. He’ll now spend 4 weeks on the sidelines with suspension and Michael Chee-Kam will replace him in the centres. Chris Lawrence is back on the bench and provides veteran experience.

In a clash between 8th and 9th on the table, this should be a close / low scoring battle for the 80 minutes between two desperate teams. Considering the last meeting resulted in just 23 total points at this venue in 2019, we do like the chances of the Under especially in night conditions.
