We were a little off in our return to F1 betting tips last weekend as Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc picked up his first win of his career in Belgium.
The F1 season continues this weekend as we head to the Autodromo Nazionale Monza for the annual Italian GP. We have a full preview and betting tips for the weekend’s action below.
2019 Italian Grand Prix Betting Tips
It was a great weekend for Ferrari and Charles Leclerc, who picked up his first win in Belgium, however, the weekend was marred by the tragic death of Formula 2 driver Anthoine Hubert. The Italian Grand Prix is set to be a sombre affair, with many of the drivers from the top flight heavily affected by the disaster.
The show must go on, however, and drivers will need to suit up this weekend as they continue their pursuit of Lewis Hamilton atop the drivers’ championship standings. Hamilton finished second behind Leclerc in Belgium to move even further clear od the majority of his rivals atop the drivers’ championship. He now sites a whopping 65 points clear of teammate Valtteri Bottas, having finished in the top two in 11 of 13 races so far this season.
Sebastian Vettel’s tough season continues as the German star finished fourth in Belgium. He looked to have turned his season around with two podium finishes in a row before the mid-season break, however, he is still hunting his first win of the season.
The Track
Autodromo Nazionale Monza or more comely referred to simply as Monza, is one of the oldest serving race-tracks in Formula 1. It has consistently been a host of the Italian Grand Prix since the 1922 season and has hosted all but one event since 1949. The track isn’t extremely technical, but what it lacks in difficulty, it makes up for in sheer pace.
The Track has very long straights and mostly slow corners and has one of the best atmospheres of any race throughout the F1 calendar. The Mercedes has been the standout manufacturer of the season so far and with so much room to open up at Monza, we expect them to be back on top here.
Prediction
Charles Leclerc has pipped Lewis Hamilton for favouritism for an F1 event for the first time this season as he leads the betting markets at around $2.37. We love the value of the Mercedes drvier here, who has drifted to has high as $3.00 at some outlets.
As we mentioned above, the Mercedes should have a slight advantage here with the amount of straights and slow corners at Monza. Back the British star to be back on the top step of the podium here.
