We love back to back events in the Formula 1! The dust has only just settled on the French Grand Prix but the tour rolls on this weekend as we head to the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg for the annual Austrian Grand Prix!
We take a look at the weekend’s action and give our best betting tips for the event below!
2019 Austrian Grand Prix Betting Tips
We found a winner in France last weekend as Lewis Hamilton saluted at odds of $1.90. The win marked the sixth win of the season for the Brit and the fourth on the trot as he moves a whopping 37 points clear at the top of the drivers’ championship standings. Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas picked up yet another 2nd place finish, marking his sixth time this season he has finished on one of the top two steps on the podium.
Ferrari youngster Charles Leclerc finished 3rd for the third time this season and currently sits fifth on the drivers’ standings behind only Hamilton, Bottas, Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.
The Track
The Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria, in some form or other, has hosted every Austrian Grand Prix since 1970. Formerly named the Osterreichring and the A1-Ring, the track was built in 1969 and has undergone a few minor changes over its existence.
The current layout of the track offers a very fast but very hectic lap. High speed corners 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 make for a thrilling finish to the lap and with the drivers operating in such a small space, there is very little room for error.
Look for the Mercedes dominant engine to be brought back to the field this weekend as driver skill will be more important than raw power in the straights.
Predictions
Since moving to Red Bull from Toro Rosso back in 2016, Max Verstappen has been fanastic in Austria. He finished 2nd that season and after unfortunately retiring from the race in 2017, bounced back last season to win the race after clocking the fastest time. Seems to love the Red Bull Ring and has been ridiculously consistent this year, finishing fourth or better in seven of the eight races so far. We love the value of the Dutch driver to finish on the podium here.
