The exciting NBA season continues this Tuesday with a big nine game slate on the cards. There are plenty of juicy matchups among them, headlined by the Jazz at Mavericks game at 12:30pm AEDT. As usual, we have a full preview and betting tips for the key games of the day below.
The Hawks are finally getting healthy and are playing far more competitively on a night to night basis as a result. Last time out they were five point winners against the Knicks in a double OT thriller, which Trae Young starred in with 48 points and 13 assists. That win was the Hawks fifth from their last 10 games and has them sitting 7.5 games outside the eighth seed in the East.
The Magic, who are the aforementioned eighth seed, come into this in some very, very bad form. They’ve lost each of their last three and eight of their last nine, with their only win during that span coming against a poor Hornets line-up. The Magic have had a pretty tough run with injuries, however, they still should be having a lot more success than what they’ve achieved of late.
The Hawks come into this as the better form team of the two and have two young stars in Trae Young and John Collins playing fantastic basketball. If that duo is at the top of their game, then there’s a real possibility that the Hawks come away with an upset win in Orlando.
The Timberwolves made some big moves right before the trade deadline elapsed and the immediate result was a huge 27 point win against the red hot Clippers. Big KAT looked a lot less depressed now that his good friend in D’Angelo Russell is on board, and Malik Beasley was immense in first game since coming over from Denver. The Timberwolves still have a long way to go to revitalise their season, but they’ve certainly put one foot in the right direction.
The Raptors are the form team of the competition and come into this game on a franchise best 14 game winning streak. They’ve been firing on all cylinders and were able to keep their streak alive only just after they fended off the Nets by one point last start. This huge streak has seen them climb into second spot in the East with a 39-14 record.
The Raptors are clearly the better team in this matchup and are the deserving favourites, particularly on their home floor. However, the Timberwolves were simply superb last time out and if they can produce similar effort, then we can see them keeping this a lot closer than the bookies anticipate.
The Jazz look to have come out of a rut that saw them lose five games on the spin. They snapped that streak with a controversial win against the Trail Blazers before winning in miraculous fashion on Monday against the Rockets. The recent wins by the Jazz has seen them move back into fourth spot in the West with an overall record of 34-18.
The Mavericks continue to battle without their superstar in Luka Doncic (injured). The depth of their squad has helped them hold down the fort momentarily, with special thanks to Kristaps Porzingis who has been impeccable for the most part. The Mavs were 16 point winner’s last time out against the Hornets, which made it three wins from their past five games to take their season tally to 32-21.
Neither of these two clubs are in fantastic form coming into this clash, although we do slightly favour the Mavs here. The Jazz haven’t been anywhere near as good on the road (15-13) as they have been at home (19-5) this season, and will also be on the second night of a road back to back. We believe this will lead to a narrow win by the home side.
