This Saturday in the AFL features a great five game slate kicking off at 1.45pm. Last weekend our fantasy team of the week scored a decent score of 738 but we’ll be looking to improve on that in Round 9 as we present our fantasy team for the Saturday slate at PlayON below.
PlayON have some fantastic tournaments on offer this Saturday, including some qualifier competitions for the massive $100k AFL Super Contest in August for just $2!
Defenders: Bailey Rice, Sam Murray
Bailey Rice comes in for his debut for the Saints and should offer some run and decent ball usage off half back. A fairly unknown quantity at this stage but has a decent matchup against the Pies and is cheap as chips. Sam Murray is another rookie on the cheaper side who has shown he is capable of big scores. I expect the St Kilda vs Collingwood game to be a high scoring one in fantasy terms under the roof so I’ve gone for five players from that game in my team.
Ross will hopefully be the valuable point of difference for us here. Comes up against the Pies who famously don’t tag any opposition player. They have allowed opposing midfielders to rack up massive scores so far this year and Ross had 120 against them last season. Ablett returned to the Cats line-up last weekend after four weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury and racked up 32 touches and a goal for 105 points. I love the matchup against the Bombers for Gaz this week.
Ed Phillips is the cheap option in the midfield after making his debut last weekend and scoring 86 points against the Dockers. Saints are in rebuild mode in 2018 now so Phillips should get plenty of opportunities to apply his trade in the midfield on Saturday night.
Hoping Sam Gray can be another point of difference here to the people that chose the obvious forward selection this Saturday in Robbie Gray. Robbie struggled in both of his games against the Suns last season, scoring in the 60’s on both occasions. Sam was best on ground when the two sides met at the end of last season, botting 6 goals and scoring 127 points.
Lachie Keefe has two games under his belt now for scores of 76 and 49. Another cheap option but if he can produce in the 60s or 70s he should be good value.
Using the flex spot for a ruckman this weekend as I think there are two standout candidates. Brodie Grundy has been one of the best scorers in all of football this year and had a monster 128 points against the Cats last weekend.
Goldstein is a selection based on matchup this weekend as he comes up against the Giants who have really struggled in the ruck department all season.
