After hitting on all three of our bets in Round 7 of the A-League, it looked like we were about to do the same in Round 8. We kicked things off with Victory getting the win at $2.10, before Phoenix won easily for a nice $1.83 pop, then the Wanderers went a goal ahead against Sydney in derby, only to give away a ridiculous red card that eventually cost them the game. All things considered, we still had a great weekend and are well up over the past couple of weeks. Here, we present our previews and best bets for the upcoming games in Round 9 of the 2018-19 A-League season. Good luck to everyone following!
A-League Round 9 Betting Tips
Perth Glory vs Sydney FC (Friday 9pm AEDT)
The first of our A-League tips for this weekend comes from the Friday night fixture between Perth Glory and Sydney FC. This one looks like an absolute belter on paper between two teams we expect to be in the thick of it at the business end of the season.
Glory come into this game as the only team in the league still undefeated, and as result sit atop of the A-League ladder with 20 points from eight games, which has them two points clear of Victory in third. Their latest victim were the Jets, who they beat convincingly on the road by two goals to nil.
Meanwhile, Sydney FC won the Sydney derby yet again last weekend to make it four in a row in that series. It was a much needed win for the Sky Blues who retain their position in third on the ladder with 14 points from eight games.
It’s impossible to look past the Glory in this one, especially at home. At this point in the season it’s fair enough to say they’re genuine contenders, so we expect them to put in a good performance against an underperforming Sydney outfit here. Very happy to take the $2.50 on offer.
Melbourne City vs Melbourne Victory (Saturday 7:50pm AEDT)
The second game of the week is another mouth-watering duel between the two Melbourne sides; City and Victory. The Melbourne derby’s are always the biggest fixtures of the season with the exception of finals and we expect this one to be no different.
City come into this game in winning form after beating Adelaide United on the road last weekend by two goals to nil. It was an unexpected win, but a great win nonetheless for a team that has yet to find their identity this season. They can’t rest on their laurels though, because they have an even bigger game on this Saturday night.
On the other hand, Victory have amassed six straight victories and are the form team of the competition along with Perth Glory. It’s been a terrific turn of events since losing their opening two fixtures and they don’t look like slowing down anytime soon.
Once again, we’re backing in the form team with our tip here in Melbourne Victory. They’re an extremely dominant force at the moment and look to be going from strength to strength now that their marquee signings are starting to gel. We have them winning the derby by one or two goals.

Adelaide United vs Western Sydney Wanderers (Sunday 7:50pm AEDT)
The final game we’re making a play on is the Adelaide United vs Western Sydney Wanderers match on Sunday night at 7:50pm (AEDT). On paper this one looks an intriguing battle with both teams possessing plenty of quality, but underperforming so far this season.
As mentioned above, Adelaide United are coming off a 2-0 loss to Melbourne City at home last weekend and would be ropeable with the way they played. They had decent enough form going into that game to suggest they’d be right in the hunt for the three points, but simply didn’t execute when it mattered. The good news for United is they get another chance to rectify their performance in front of their home fans this weekend.
The Wanderers will surely be the most disappointed team of the 10 that played in Round 8. They led their rivals 1-0 early on, but gave away a stupid red card that left them exposed for the rest of the game. They eventually lost 3-1 and slipped further from a final spot.
We’re backing the home side in to get the win here. Adelaide have the luxury of no travel for consecutive weeks and face a team that is coming off an emotionally draining loss in the derby. Will take anything over $1.80 here.
