Finally managed some really solid AFLW betting tips last week, with 3/4 winners including a couple at odds of more than $2. Hopefully can continue a quality late run at the 2017 AFL Women's League season as I offer my AFLW Round 5 preview and betting tips.
AFL Women's Round 5 Betting Tips
GWS Giants vs Melbourne Demons (Friday, March 3rd at 5:05pm AEDT)
The Giants play the Demons on Friday in a curtain raiser to the men's preseason comp. The last time the Giants played on this ground they put in a gallant effort to draw with Fremantle. They will no doubt be hoping for their first home turf victory, but won't have it easy against the Demons.
The Giants are yet to win a game and come into this AFLW Round 5 on the back of a thrashing at the hands of the Lions. Since the start of the competition we have said their list is the least experienced and at times that really shows. Melbourne, meanwhile, are starting to fire up after losing their opening round game. Jump on the 10-point line while you can, I think it will increase by a few points before the first bounce.
Tip: Melbourne at the line (-10.5) - $1.90 at CrownBet (1 unit)
Carlton Blues vs Western Bulldogs (Saturday, March 4th at 11:05am AEDT)
Another JLT Community Series curtain raiser on Saturday as the Western Bulldogs head to Ikon Park to take on the Blues.
The Bulldogs have really struggled during the inaugural AFL Women's season and it's hard to see that changing in Round 5. They played their best footy since the opening round last week, but still couldn't get the job done against Collingwood. Their injury woes continue to mount and while the Blues have their own injury troubles, they have shown enough to defeat the Dogs. Solid odds on the margin victory at Bet365 - the same bet is $2 elsewhere.
Tip: Carlton to win by 1-24 points - $2.30 at Bet365 (1 unit)
Fremantle Dockers vs Collingwood Magpies (Saturday, March 4th at 1:35pm AEDT)
Like the Giants, the closest the Fremantle Dockers had got to a win during the 2017 AFLW season is a one-time draw. The Pies, meanwhile, haven't been all that much better, notching up just the one victory. It's no surprise the betting is tight for this one.
Both the Dockers and Magpies have severely underperformed so far this season. You can't blame one player for such things, but star Magpie forward Moana Hope has only kicked two goals in four games and certainly isn't troubling too many backlines at the moment. You have to think she a due to have a big game soon, but you can make tips based on one player being 'due'. In saying this, I do think Collingwood are the play here as I have them as I consider them 5-6 point favourites. They were able to defeat the Western Bulldogs last week, while the Dockers haven't shown much outside their draw with the equally poor GWS. I think the game being in Fremantle is the only reason the betting is so close, so have to take the value and considering the low-scoring, will be taking the odds boost on a margin bet.
Tip: Collingwood to win by 1-24 points - $2.30 at Bet365 (1 unit)
Adelaide Crows vs Brisbane Lions (Saturday, March 4th at 7:10pm AEDT)
When punters flicked through the AFLW fixture who would have thought this Round 5 clash between the Crows and Lions would be the game of the season. It's very likely this game determines which of the two currently undefeated teams finish on the top of the ladder.
It really surprises me that the Crows are such heavy favourites here. Yes, the game is in Adelaide and yes the Crows have been very good. But the Lions really have made more of an impression - especially last week with the way they attacked and moved the ball forward in their 43-9 victory over the Giants. Have to take the 8 points you can find at UBET here in what should be a cracking game.
Tip: Brisbane at the line (+8.5) - $1.90 at UBET (1 unit)
