Spring Racing Carnival 2024: Market Update, 22nd September

September 23rd 2024, 10:58am, By: Adam Page

Feature racing was across both Randwick and Caulfield on Saturday, with Fangirl and Autumn Glow sparkling at Randwick while Buckaroo made a mess of them at Caulfield in the Underwood Stakes.

The picture for certain races has become clearer, while others are as clear as mud. Adam Page takes a look at the futures markets following the racing on Saturday, with markets courtesy of BoomBet.

Epsom Handicap

The market now has $5 equal favourites for the race, with Celestial Legend firming in from $6.50 despite not running while Royal Patronage, who ran well behind Fangirl at Randwick, is now at $5 after being around $8 before the weekend. Tom Kitten was a touch plain in the Bill Ritchie and with that, he has eased to $11 after being the $4.60 favourite. Ceowulf and Detonator Jack ran at Randwick and both ran credible races. They are now both $26 into $15. My Oberon ran super behind Fangirl is into $17 from $51.

The Metropolitan

Eliyass is now the new favourite after her Kingston Town win at Randwick. She was $6.50 to $4 following that triumph. Ceowulf is now into $5, with a decision to be made whether he runs in The Metropolitan or the Epsom Handicap. Buckaroo was a superb winner of the Underwood and is now at $9, in from $26. Athabascan is $26 to $15 and has good admirers, as does Newcastle Cup winner Etna Rosso, who is now at $15 after being $51.

Flight Stakes

Tea Rose winner Autumn Glow is now all the rage to make it 4/4 to start her career in winning the Flight Stakes, sitting now at $1.80, but did ease out after touching $1.60 following her Tea Rose triumph. Manaal is at $6.50, out from $4.50. Lady Shenandoah is the filly that is considered a threat but is owned by the same interests as Autumn Glow. She's at $8.50 from $11.

Toorak Handicap

Despite a few nervous moments in the run, Another Wil won the Testa Rossa impressively at Caulfield and is now a dominant favourite for the Toorak Handicap, now at even money after being around $4.50 prior to the weekend. Jimmysstar was an impressive winner at Caulfield over 1100m and is now at $11, in from $41. Here To Shock is at $21 from $51 after a good effort in the Cameron Handicap at Newcastle on Friday.

King Charles lll Stakes

With confirmation she's running there, Pride Of Jenni is now favourite at $2.50 to win this race, narrowly ahead of star mare Fangirl at $3.50. Mr Brightside is a firmer at $4.60 with news that he could head that way if the rain arrives. In terms of horses that ran yesterday, Buckaroo won the Underwood and has been a key firmer at $21 from $51. Pericles is $26 to $18.

The Everest

Stefi Magnetica was a firmer for The Everest following her slashing return in The Shorts on the weekend and is now a $13 chance, in from $17. She hasn't got a slot but would have impressed slotholders with that return. I Wish I Win is the $5 favourite ahead of Bella Nipotina at $7, with Sunshine In Paris a point further back. I Am Me won The Shorts and did touch $11 from $18 but is now at $15 given she didn't win by a space.
