Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday September 3rd 2025

September 2nd 2025, 8:50pm, By: Brendan Bunworth

Sandown Racing Tips

Sandown Hillside provides midweek racing this Wednesday, September 3rd 2025, and conditions look good for horses and punters in general.

Race 1 starts at 1:10pm AEST with the three-year olds running over 1500m. Race 5 looks to be a race where the winner might eye off a Spring feature and we will have a bet in that one.

The track is predicted to be a Soft 6 and no rain is expected on the day.

Brendan Bunworth brings you his Sandown best bets for the day as well as his Quaddie selections, with odds thanks to Ladbrokes. And if you’re after more free tips for this week's key meetings, then head over to our Racing Tips!

Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday, September 3rd 2025

Race 2: LockettLED.au Handicap (2400m) - 1:45pm AEST

(4) Salista is race fit and ready to strike over the longer journey of 2400m. The gelding ran a good 2nd at Moe last start and that was on a Soft6 which he is likely to get again here. Before that run he was also runner up at Lakeside after running on well. He has been hitting the line well, the extra distance looks ideal and I can see him attacking the line well again here down the long Hillside straight.

(3) Blacklist won well at Bairnsdale last start with a high weight of 61kg and he backed that effort up with a winning trial at Cranbourne on August 22. Has won on the Soft before but is up in class.

(1) Captain Electric ran on well for 2nd over 2050m last start at Moe on a Soft6. He gets a claim with the weight and he will want conditions to stay a Soft6 because he likes it a bit damp.

(4) Salista

$4.80 (1 unit)

Race 5: Quayclean Handicap (1000m) - 3:30pm AEST

(10) Sun Setting has drawn the inside this time and when he drew a similar barrier at Mornington 4 starts back (2) she got the money. She should position up on the rails just behind the leaders and have every chance in this. Mark Zahra takes the ride for the first time and the drop back in distance to the 1000m looks ideal because I think it is her favourite. She is very consistent and she has placed at Hillside before. Second look here.

(3) Lovelycut runs well fresh and she jumped out well in readiness for this race. She will want a Soft track and she wasn’t disgraced in a Group 1 race last start. Will be fit enough after a lot of recent jumpouts.

(8) Gentle Steel is 2 from 2 on Soft tracks and Jamie Mott stays on which is good because he has won 2 from 3 starts on top.

(10) Sun Setting

$3.20 (2 units)

Race 8: Sportsbet Race Replays Handicap (1300m) - 5:15pm AEST

(8) From The Block is a great each-way chance in this on the back of his excellent recent form. He won three on the bounce before trying to lead all of the way last time at Caulfield and he only got collared over the final 100m. Craig Williams stays on and it is likely he will try to lead all of the way again here from barrier 3. A slight concern is the extra 200 this time and a longer home straight but a Soft track would increase his chances.

(2) Naval Academy ran on well for 7th at The Valley last time and he might like Hillside which he sees for the first time. He likes Soft tracks and he gets Jamie Melham. Does have to carry 61kg though.

(6) Comanche Miss for Philip Stokes is a good double figure chance after a good prep at Morphetville last time. Will be running on especially if they go too hard early.

(8) From The Block

$4.60 (1 unit)
