Sandown Lakeside provides punters with midweek racing at Melbourne this week with the first of eight races starting at 1pm AEST. It hasn’t rained in a week and the track has dried out a bit and will race as Good. Some of the leading trainers and jockeys combine in some of the races and they will be sure to attract support.
Brendan Bunworth brings you his three Sandown best bets for the day as well as his Quaddie selections, with odds thanks to Ladbrokes. And if you’re after more free tips for this week's key meetings, then head over to our Racing Tips!

Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday, August 13th 2025
Race 2: MRC Membership Feel The Thrill Handicap - 1:35pm (AEST)
(5) Planet Red resumes here and he gets a top jock in Mark Zahra on straight away. Mertens rode the gelding on debut at Pakenham on a Good track and he ran on well to salute over 1200m and Price&Kent have stuck with distance first up. Gets a Dry track again and he should prove hard to beat. There was no real support for him on debut but even money is on the cards here this time.
(6) Ornos drops in grade after running 6th to Shining Smile at Flemington last start. He has drawn well in 3 and he ran 2nd when second up in prep 1.
(2) Bingi led and scored at Geelong last start and looked good. If he leads again he could control it for a long way.
(5) Planet Red WIN
$2.00 (3 Units)
Race 7: LockettLED.com.au Handicap - 4:30pm (AEST)
(8) Stay Silent is fitter after two runs in and despite having poor form on the Good, I’ll stick with him here. He ran on quite well here last start on a Soft track and he remains at the same distance so I think he will run on stronger. Ben Allen stays on top and he has won on him previously. Has drawn 10 so he will take him back and the plan will be to hook out with one long sustained run at the end.
(5) Heed The Omens has drawn well in 2 and his first up record is good. The Waller trained gelding needs further but if he gets a cushy run he could be the one late with Tom Prebble getting a 2kg claim.
(16) Sacred Fort is another Maher runner who is better on Soft ground but he is down in class for this. Was wide last start when 5th and he is another run on type but he can miss the start.
(8) Stay Silent Each-Way
$3.80/$1.75 (1 Unit)
Race 8: Sportsbet Same Race Multi Handicap - 5:05pm (AEST)
(10) Keeni has drawn wide in 14 for Moody&Coleman but I reckon by the last race the outside might be the place to be. She is lightly raced and she may go back again like she did last start when 8th at Caulfield. Before that run she led all of the way to score at Ballarat but she had barrier 1 there so that was a better option. She is 1 from 1 over the distance and she is nice each-way odds.
(13) Point Be will settle around 3rd or 4th in the run which could prove to be economical. Jamie Melham and Maher combine and they have a good strike rate when combining. Melham competes a lot of apprentices here and may be too smart.
(4) Perfect Picture resumes and is 1 from 1 for Graheme Begg first up. Is the likely favourite and has been consistent in city class races previously. Deserved favourite but is she fit enough?
(10) Keeni E/W
$7.50/2.40 (1 Unit)
