Welcome to our preview and horse racing betting tips for racing at Sandown Hillside on Wednesday, February 20th.
There’s eight races on a Good 4 track with the rail out 9m. We’ve picked out our best bets on the card below!
Lake District Girl promised quite a bit as an early two-year-old but evidently she’s had quite a few problems since then, as she’s had just the two starts since finishing 4th in the Blue Diamond Prelude this time last year. It seems she’s returned in great order this time around though, with a 13.5L trial win followed up with a dominant first up performance in Adelaide. It was only a maiden against moderate opposition but she won by 3L and put them away with ease. She looks more than capable of making the step up in grade in Melbourne today and the 3kg claim for apprentice Michael Poy gets her in nicely with just 57kg. He’ll need to produce a good ride from barrier 11 but I expect her to be finishing over the top of them late.
Open little race to finish off the meeting but I think Getemhel has a reasonably good chance here and represents quite a good each way bet at $7.00/$2.30. The five-year-old mare returns from a 21-week spell and her first up record stands at four starts for three wins. In fact, those three wins have been the only three wins of her 15-start career, so clearly fresh is best for her. Last prep she resumed from 11 months off with a dominant 2L victory at Geelong over the 1140m distance. Today is over 1000m and although she’s yet to win at this distance, I think she gets her chance to break the duck being first up here. Drawn nicely in barrier 3 with Jordan Childs on board and she should be going close.
A trip to Hong Kong quickly had Tim hooked to the racing caper, maintaining the best place anywhere in the world on a Wednesday night is Happy Valley. He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne, and his home town of Perth. He’s a fan of dry tracks, Zac Purton and takes particular interest in identifying patterns in the form. Tim wears many hats, juggling the roles of racing form analyst for Before You Bet, jockey manager and racehorse owner.
