Sale Racing Tips: Wednesday, May 27th

May 26th 2020, 5:26pm, By: Trent Crebbin

Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing at Sale on Wednesday, May 27th.

The track is currently rated a soft 7, so expect decent give in the ground. Last time we raced here, the inside was quicksand and jockeys were keen to get as wide as possible in the straight. Watch the more experienced jockeys early to get a gauge and don’t be surprised to see the inside chop up quickly.

Check out our preview and betting tips below.

Sale Racing Tips: Wednesday, May 27th

Best Bet: Race 4 - (2) Beauty Supreme

Best Value: Race 8 - (11) Whittington Stone

Race 1 (Market)

Fun way to kick things off- a 2yo maiden with just one horse currently in the field and a few emergencies having raced before. (6) I Am Mamwaazel was ok on debut finishing 2nd, but it’s hardly a good form line. (3) Cherry Tortini is on debut for the Payne/Egan combo. He’ll probably go back from the wide draw which will make it tough but looks to have some ability. I’m going with (11) Miss Conduct on top for McNeil/Freedman. She trialled behind stakes class 2yo Mildred last year, and more recently closed well in a jumpout. She’s drawn well and if McNeil can hold a spot, I think she’ll run on strongly.

(11) Miss Conduct

$6.50

Race 2 (Market)

Not sure there’s any stars here, but it does look a touch clearer cut than the previous race. The favourite is (9) Not For Izzy who will race near the speed and goes Higgins to Willo, which is about as positive a jockey change you can get in Melbourne. I think the best horse in the race is (10) Paris Pike for Froggy Newitt and the Eurell camp. First up from a gelding operation, he ran home in some of the better sectionals of the race in a fairly strong form race. Two that finished ahead of him have both started very short in subsequent maidens, including Kutayha on Monday at Echuca. He doesn’t map as favourably, but you’re getting over double the price and I’m happy to have something on. Next best is (4) Frankie Fiorente who is racing well but will need luck with the apprentice on board.

(10) Paris Pike

$6.00

Race 3 (Market)

Pretty happy to make (11) Japery top pick here. I was tossing up between it and (12) Lariat, who has since been scratched. This gelding has had three starts, two of which were in good spring 2yo races, where not much went right in either. He resumed at this track a few weeks ago and ran 4th behind Rock The Ring, who started well in the market at Flemington on Saturday. He sat outside the leader that day, and the leader was beaten 7.6L whereas the swoopers only got to Japery late. I expect Egan to be aggressive early and try and run them off their legs over the 1000m. Very wary of (4) Libertus who is on debut and showed talent at the jump outs over a month ago. A relation to Hay List, he could have some talent. The favourite is (7) Hummalong but she looks short enough despite placing in all runs to date.

(11) Japery

$6.00

Race 4 (Market)

This is a better race. (2) Beauty Supreme is the favourite and I think he looks hard to beat. He broke his maiden in dominant fashion at the end of last preparation before running very well in a strong race at Caulfield first up after solid backing. The first and third horse in that race have since run second and third in a good race at Flemington. He likes soft ground, he’ll be fitter here and should go close. (4) Santorini Summer comes out of the same race and was solid there, but he might want further than 1000m. (5) With Edge is a maiden but has run well behind good horses including Final Man and recent Saturday winner La Chevalee. (1) Moi Choux is a good horse and probably should’ve won a BM70 last start but has to carry a big weight. I can’t see much else winning, and happy to have a crack at Beauty Supreme.

(2) Beauty Supreme

$3.70

Race 5 (Market)

Unfortunately Master Montaro has been scratched. The other promising horse here is (2) Lake’s Folly who was very impressive first up here on soft ground, coming down the outside to win running away. My slight knock with him is he won on debut, then struggled 2nd and 3rd up. He also drops back to the 1100m which I don’t think is a positive, but with Master Montaro scratched I'm happy to have Lake's Folly on top. (7) Write Enuff is consistent but struggles to win and no way she should be the same price as Lake’s Folly. I can see Master Montaro drifting a touch, especially on the Exchange, with Lake’s Folly proven on wet ground, and I’ll be happy to take the chance he handles it because he could be quite good. Wouldn’t talk you out of a quinella either.

(2) Lake's Folly

$2.30

Race 6 (Market)

Pretty average contest for the stayers over 2200m. The form around (1) Mr Monaco and (4) Big Brew is pretty easy to tie in, but the former has been going around in jumps trials and the latter was beaten 9 lengths last start. (10) Kansino brings a good SP profile and steps up in trip, but she barely won Donald maiden last start. Looking for a bit of value and think (6) Pharrell could be that. The 9yo’s form doesn’t read well, but he’s had two starts at the track and distance for two wins, with one of them on a soft 7. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him start even longer on the Exchange. He’ll be nearing peak fitness here and in an average race, he could bob up.

(6) Pharrell E/W

$26

Race 7 (Market)

Another average, open race. The best credentialed runner is (1) Zouy’s Comet who was good first up and has raced well in stronger company. Does have to carry weight though. (3) Blenders Edition was actually beaten 2L by that horse last year but does meet it a lot better at the weights. He was a forgive run in a good race last start when the saddle slipped. He boasts a 4L defeat to Harbour Views which would probably win this. (4) Taberna was good last start at $31 but is now $3.50 so I’d like to see her repeat that performance before backing her at the odds. Plenty of other chances but happy to have Blenders Edition on top and make Zouy’s Comet a smaller result.

Value: (1) Zouy's Comet $8.50

(3) Blenders Edition

$5.50

Race 8 (Market)

Not a bad way to finish the day. The track will be key at this point. I expect them to be well off the fence. If Egan can navigate his way to the best going, (3) Street Tough looks hard to beat. 3rd up here, he’s in good form and went very close last start at Warnambool. The value in the race looks to be (11) Whittington Stone. I’m a big fan of this horse- he puts himself on speed and fights until the line. Last start he was slow out and held up. I’m happy to forgive that effort in a similar grade. If he can get to the front, he’ll give his all at double figures. There are another 5 horses under $10, and any of them could win without surprising. (2) Muswellbrook was poor on a heavy track last start, but his previous run on a softer track is good enough for this. (9) Miroku and (4) Toosbuy have solid claims.

Value: (11) Whittington Stone $11

(3) Street Tough

$6.50
