Group 1 action in New South Wales this Saturday comes from Rosehill with the running of the 2016 Golden Rose, while we also have horse racing tips for every race of the day!
Rosehill Betting Tips - Saturday 10th September
Race 1 - Loves A Fantasy EW (Best Value)
Race 2 - Antonio Giuseppe (Best Bet)
Race 3 - Sir Bacchus
Race 4 - Quatronic
Race 5 - Allergic
Race 6 - Yankee Rose (Preview Below)
Race 7 - Counterattack
Race 8 - Ravi
Race 9 - Dinghu Mountain
Best Bet: Race 2 - Antonio Giuseppe
Has now recorded back to back wins and Bowman jumps off stablemate Dubaiinstyle to ride this one. The step up to 1800m appears as if it will be suitable and any rain that comes should help.
Best Value: Race 1 - Loves A Fantasy
Really open race to start the program but this mare drops to 54.5kg with the claim which brings her into calculations. Racing in good form and should get a good run from barrier 5. Worth an EW bet at $10.
De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose 1400m - Group 1
14 three-year-olds are set to contest the 1400m of the Golden Rose with a $1 million carrot up for grabs. The forecast suggests there will be rain about in Sydney. Rosehill is currently a Soft 5 but we could see that downgrade quite significantly.
Let's go through the runners:
ASTERN: Looked very good when winning the Run To The Rose last start, which took his record to 4 wins from 5 starts. He looks to have returned a really nice three-year-old and will have only improved off that. Drawn poorly but looks a big chance.
EL DIVINO: Led and faded in the Run To The Rose and has a tough task to turn the tables on Astern. Does strip fitter 2nd up and draws well in 4 so will get every chance.
GOOD STANDING: Looks the horse capable of improving the most. Is a Group 2 winner but has gone off the boil since then. Was poor first up but the blinkers go on for the first time here and he draws well so could turn his form around.
DIVINE PROPHET: Big win first up when coming from last to win the Gr3 Up And Coming Stakes. Has had three weeks off and the step up to 1400m will only suit him. Will go back again from barrier 10 but he has definite claims.
NIKITAS: Slightly unlucky first up in the Run To The Rose but even so he has a tough task to turn the tables on Astern and co. Needs to lift to feature in the finish.
THRONUM: Defeated Mediterranean to win the Rosebud two starts ago and then finished 3rd behind Divine Prophet and Derryn last start. Expect him to go forward from barrier 13 which should set a good tempo. Should give a good sight in front but might just find a couple too good.
IMPENDING: Good run first up in the Run To The Rose behind stablemate Astern. Was unlucky in the straight and ran home very well when he got clear to finish 3rd. From barrier 2 he should box seat and has a genuine chance of causing a little upset.
DERRYN: Melbourne colt who resumed with a nice win in lesser grade before being run down right on the line by Divine Prophet last start. 1kg worse off at the weights to Divine Prophet here and looks more of a rough place chance than a winning hope.
MEDITERRANEAN: Narrowly defeated by Thronum two starts back and then was slightly disappointing for mine last start. The stable is confident he will improve stepping up to 1400m and are actually quite bullish. Gets a great run from barrier 5 and one to include in the exotics.
OINK: Brisbane colt who has traveled up for this but based on his form back in QLD he looks out of his depth here.
CHAMALU: Nice debut win at the Sunshine Coast in Wednesday grade last week. This is a HUGE step up in grade and while he looks a very promising type, this is a massive ask.
YANKEE ROSE: Hugely talented filly who ran 2nd in the Slipper before winning the Sires' Produce Stakes last prep. There were concerns over her trackwork and trials recently but the application of blinkers switched her back on. Her only run at 1400m was a dominant Group 1 win so if she produces her best here she'll win.
OMEI SWORD: Hugely impressive win first up from a spell in the Silver Shadow Stakes. Fitter here 2nd up, 1400m no problem, well drawn and despite what you may read, the booking of Joao Moreira is a big positive! Right in this.
O'REILLY CYRUS: In decent form back in QLD and beaten by a handy one last start, but like the other QLD horses in this race, she faces a big test to be competitive here.
1st YANKEE ROSE
2nd ASTERN
3rd OMEI SWORD
4th IMPENDING
