Randwick Racing Tips: Saturday, June 20th

June 20th 2020, 2:30am, By: tim_tips

Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing at Randwick on Saturday, June 20th.

We're stuck on a heavy track at Randwick again this Saturday, with the rail moving from the 9m position to the true position since our last meeting here. The riders were looking to get to the outside fence last time so with the rail back true, it will be interesting to see if the rail is superior.

Find the race-by-race preview and betting tips for Randwick from Tim Geers below!

Randwick Racing Tips: Saturday, June 20th

Best Bet: Race 5 - (6) Southern Lad Use Palmerbet Price Push *

Best Value: Race 3 - (10) Star Of Harada Use Palmerbet Race Rescue *

Race 1 (Market)

Basically a no bet race here with five two-year-olds opening the card. (3) Silhouette was an impressive winner last start at Warwick Farm, justifying good market support to score by 1.3L on the heavy ground. She'll get similar conditions today. Her prep has been a little bit unconventional, dropping from 1400m to 1200m and now up to 1500m, but I'll stick with her on top. (2) Angel Helena has a more conventional path, stepping from 1250m to 1400m and now to 1500m. She comes off a win at Hawkesbury but she did fail on heavy ground on debut which is the query. (5) Exhibition ran the fastest final 200m of the race on debut and the stable are absolutely flying.

(3) Silhouette

$1.95

Race 2 (Market)

(5) Keen Power should be going close here. He was narrowly beaten first up and then encountered a bit of traffic in the straight last start when beaten less than a length. This looks no harder and JMac sticks with him. He'll handle the conditions so there is no reason he can't be in the finish again. The other horse I'll back is (11) Bad Boy For Love who I was with last time out. He finished 4th on that occasion and we might see him ridden a touch closer from barrier 1 today, which is the first time in four or five runs he's drawn an inside gate. He doesn't win often but he should run a good race again and I won't be losing on him at $8.50. (4) Tejori has been freshened since running four weeks ago and the step back up to 1200m should be more suitable.

Value: (11) Bad Boy For Love $8.50

(5) Keen Power

$2.70

Race 3 (Market)

Competitive race so we've got a wide market here. (10) Star Of Harada comes into this off back-to-back wins on heavy ground, maintaining her unbeaten record on the surface from four attempts. She has to graduate to Saturday company now but she has been faultless on heavy ground so far and she'll get conditions to suit today, so at $8.00 I've made her my best value of the day. The other horse I'll be backing is (3) Broken Arrows who has finished behind Adelong in all three starts this preparation. That's obviously good form as Adelong just keeps beating everything. Broken Arrows didn't get any luck last start, held up most of the straight. He rises in weight but so long as he gets even luck, there's no reason he can't be very competitive in this at $6.50. Make sure you use the Palmerbet Race Rescue product to ensure your stake is returned if our Best value finishes 2nd or 3rd!

Also backing: (3) Broken Arrows $6.50

(10) Star Of Harada

$8.00

Race 4 (Market)

(1) Mount Popa makes a steep rise in trip here from 1400m to 2000m at just his second start in Australia, and he has to carry 60kg on a heavy track, but I've got him on top in any case. He'll need to be good to overcome those factors but the step up in distance is what he desperately needs. He wasn't that far off the winner first up at Flemington over 1400m, but both career wins have been over 2400m so there's every chance he'll need the 2000m and then some. There isn't a great deal to this race so tipping him to improve sharply. (9) Korcho and (10) Birth Of Venus are both in a similar boat, stepping up sharply in distance second up from a spell. Bowman rides the former and whenever he rides for these connections you must take notice, while Birth Of Venus has never won below 1900m, so will appreciate the 2000m. (6) Elaborate was good over 2400m last start but drops back in distance to 2000m and will have to run them all down from the back. (14) Animalia looks a likely leader and has had early betting support. When this stable puts the money on in these sorts of races, they rarely miss, so expect it to shorten from its current quote of $11.

(1) Mount Popa

$3.50

Race 5 (Market)

I've made (6) Southern Lad my best bet of the day today but basically by default, as I don't see a great deal that will beat him. It's absolutely D-day for him here. He's been beaten at $2.70, $1.75 and $7.50 this prep, but he took Classique Legend to half-a-length last time out and there's no Classique Legend in here. He won at this track and distance at this stage last preparation. JMac jumps back on, he likes the track and distance, he handles the wet, and so long as he is close enough on the turn, I think he'll win. (1) Viridine ran 4th in that race behind Classique Legend last start and had to come from last to try chase them down. JMac jumps off him and Bowman on, he carries 61kg and I think his best form is probably on firmer ground. (5) Invictus Prince was good first up from a 60 week spell but he's only won twice from 23 starts so he's hard to trust. (7) Sandbar won second up last prep so deserves respect. Make sure you use the Palmerbet Price Push product to get better value for our Best of the Day!

(6) Southern Lad

Race 6 (Market)

(13) Sweeping Statement was impressive winning first up on the Kensington. It's not often you see them settle last, come widest on the turn and reel them in at that track, especially over 1000m. She'll have to go back again from the wide barrier but she may well end up in the best part of the track, and there looks enough speed in this to set it up for her. (9) Threeood continues to race well this prep and earned another win at the midweeks last start. She's yet to finish out of the top three this prep and from the good draw she should be competitive once more. (1) Misteed doesn't win out of turn but she does like the wet, so condiitons will suit. She was only narrowly beaten last start over track and distance, meaning she's now placed in five of her six starts over 1200m at Randwick. She should go well with any luck.

(13) Sweeping Statement

$8.00

Race 7 (Market)

(8) Charretera looks a very good place bet here at the very least. AT $8.50/$3.00 he looks a good 1x3 type bet. He doesn't win often, but he was only about a length off the winner first up and he's got a terrific second up record, with two wins and a 2nd from three starts. We should see him settle a touch closer today from barrier 4, he goes well at the track and distance and should handle the ground, so I think he'll be right there. (11) Hulk won well on soft ground first up and followed that up with another good run last time out. We've seen Van Giz come out of that race and run well again so it looks reasonable form. (9) Monte Ditto loves the wet and gets JMac booked to ride so can go well, while (1) Oakfield Twilight is looking to make it a hattrick of wins. He beat both Monte Ditto and Charretera here at the track and distance last start so has to be respected.

(8) Charretera

$8.50

Race 8 (Market)

(10) Convinced ran well first up and looks suited second up today. He drops to 61.5kg today and Bowman sticks with him after riding him first up. He won second up last prep and from the good draw he should have no excuses here. (1) Starspangled Rodeo looks a touch of value at $7.50. He won first up and then had no luck at all last start, held up most of the straight. Forgive him for that and give him another chance today. He had done little wrong prior to that. He's only missed a place twice in his career - one being last start and the other at Flemington where he tried to buck. Nash goes on today which is basically Bjorn Baker's number one rider and he should run well. (4) Mr Dependable is up to a much more suitable distance and is undefeated second up but I just wonder whether he's at his best on wet ground.

Value: (1) Starspangled Rodeo $7.50

(10) Convinced

$6.50

Race 9 (Market)

I'm on two horses here that Avdulla murdered last start in (10) Bergen and (13) High Low Bet. Bergen sat wide on speed all the way first up and understandably faded. Forgive him for that as he should get a sweet run from barrier 4 here and $8.00 is worth taking again. High Low Bet drew barrier 9 last start and somehow ended up held up between runners from the 300m to 150m mark, completely losing any momentum she was building. She draws wide here but may end up in the best part of the track come the end of the day and she loves the wet. (11) Bigboyroy gets his chance to break through for another run, while (1) Spencer ran well last start but barrier 1 may not be ideal.

Value: (13) High Low Bet $14

(10) Bergen

$8.00
