Punters pile into Winx for 2018 Colgate Optic White Stakes
All eyes will be on the world’s highest-rated racehorse this Saturday, September 15th, when Winx lines up in the Group 1 Colgate Optic White Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick.
The TAB has reported that 99% of early bets in the race have been for Winx, who will be aiming to win the race for the third year running.
Winx resumed with a dominant victory in the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) on August 18, notching up her 26th consecutive victory and 19th Group 1 in the process.
The Chris Waller-trained mare began her winning streak began with victory in the 2015 Sunshine Coast Guineas, some 1215 days ago.
If a punter placed a $10 bet on Winx to win the Sunshine Coast Guineas and rolled the winnings over in every one of her next 25 victories, they would now have $365,161.65.
TAB’s Gerard Middleton suggested the champion mare may start even shorter than her current quote in Saturday’s race.
“While she drifted on raceday first up in the Winx Stakes over 1400, that may not happen now the champ gets out to a mile,” he said.
“Winx has jumped $1.12 and $1.08 in the past two editions of this race, and as always, we’re expecting the big punters to step in and take the short odds.”
Nominations for the Colgate Optic White Stakes were released on Monday (September 10), with Chris Waller-trained horses making up 15 of the 22 entries.
Winx is currently rated a $1.45 chance to win the 2018 Cox Plate.
