Welcome to our preview and horse racing betting tips for racing at Sha Tin in Hong Kong on Sunday, May 27th.
We kick off the new season with a 10-race card and we’ve picked out our best bets of the day below.
I think (2) Winner’s Way is best suited over the 1200m in Class 1 company. Just two starts ago he saluted in Group 3 company over track and distance. Good first up record, good record at the track and distance and Purton keeps the ride on him. His biggest market rival is (7) Wishful Thinker who is actually favourite for the race but he steps up to Class 1 for the first time, while Winner’s Way drops back from Group racing.
This looks the best bet of the day in the form of (4) King Opie for Purton and Frankie Lor. He ran 2nd, beaten a nose last time out over this track and distance and won a trial in good style recently. Really doesn’t look to have much to beat here and Frankie Lor is coming off a remarkable training season, so should be able to kick off the new season with a winner here. His strike rate with Purton is very solid.
(1) Rattan carries top weight and starts from a wide barrier here but he might simply be better than the rest of these. After failing in a preparation aimed at the Hong Kong Derby, he returned from 10 weeks off to absolutely blitz a similar race over this track and distance. That took his record at the track and distance to two wins and two placings from four starts.
A trip to Hong Kong quickly had Tim hooked to the racing caper, maintaining the best place anywhere in the world on a Wednesday night is Happy Valley. He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne, and his home town of Perth. He’s a fan of dry tracks, Zac Purton and takes particular interest in identifying patterns in the form. Tim wears many hats, juggling the roles of racing form analyst for Before You Bet, jockey manager and racehorse owner.
