We're narrowing in on the finals, and with the results from Round 19, it seems that 9 of the top 10 spots are locked away. It's down to St Kilda, Carlton, North Melbourne and the GWS Giants to lock up 10th spot. The Giants had a perfect opportunity to gain an edge for that spot in Round 19, but they blew it with an upset loss to Essendon. The Bombers are now off the bottom of the ladder with their second win of the season. At the pointy end, Freo have top spot locked up, but the race for second place is now wide open with Adelaide landing a big upset win against Sydney. The Hawks and Lions also have their eye on jumping into the top two. It should be an exciting couple of weeks to finish the regular season.

2026 AFL Brownlow Round 19 Overview
Round 19 will be an interesting one for Brownlow votes. Our Brownlow favourites in Nick Daicos, Marcus Bontempelli and Bailey Smith might all poll three votes as the best on ground to stretch their advantage at the top of the leaderboard, but there's a number of tricky games this round where the voting allocations aren't so clear cut. Caleb Serong, Kysaiah Pickett, Patrick Cripps and Harry Sheezel are other contenders who may poll votes in Round 19.

The Cats led all the way to get themselves back on the winner’s list. Bailey Smith (35 disposals, 6 marks, 1 goal) didn’t stop running to be the best player on ground. Gryan Miers (22 disposals, 7 marks, 3 goals) returned to the team in style, with Jhye Clark (25 disposals, 9 marks) and Oli Dempsey (22 disposals, 2 goals) providing good support. Rowan Marshall (33 disposals, 31 hitouts, 12 clearances, 2 goals) was enormous in the ruck for the Saints, with Darcy Wilson (29 disposals, 8 tackles) and Hugo Garcia (30 disposals, 7 clearances, 1 goal) also very good.

The Crows have pushed the door wide open in the race to second place with an upset win over the Swans. Izak Rankine (30 disposals, 8 clearances, 1 goal), Wayne Milera (26 disposals, 12 marks) and James Peatling (28 disposals, 7 clearances) were excellent, while Darcy Fogarty (4 goals, 20 disposals) continued his fine form. Tom Papley (4 goals, 24 disposals) was the spark for the Swans and was arguably best on ground, while Isaac Heeney (29 disposals) and Callum Mills (25 disposals, 8 tackles) were also good. Will be an interesting game for Brownlow votes.

An undermanned Power team put up a good fight against the ladder leaders, but Freo did enough to get the job done. Caleb Serong (28 disposals, 9 tackles, 8 clearances) and Andrew Brayshaw (30 disposals) were typically busy while Jye Amiss (4 goals, 12 disposals) and Josh Tracey (3 goals, 14 disposals) were good up forward. Joe Richards is enjoying some extra midfield time and he was one of the best on ground with 31 disposals, 6 marks, 8 tackles, 6 clearances and 1 goal. Jase Burgoyne (24 disposals, 6 marks, 6 clearances, 1 goal) and Ollie Wines (30 disposals, 7 clearances) were good in the middle, while Aliir Aliir (18 disposals, 13 marks) was huge at half back. Another one that could see votes go a number of different ways.

The Roos again had their chances to win but Melbourne ground them down to get the chocolates. Tom Sparrow (33 disposals, 6 marks, 6 tackles, 10 clearances, 1 goal), Kysaiah Pickett (29 disposals, 7 marks, 1 goal) and Jake Bowey (29 disposals) were best for Melbourne in the win. Harry Sheezel (33 disposals, 6 marks, 1 goal) and Luke Davies-Uniacke (28 disposals) were once again left to do the heavy lifting for the Roos.

A big time clash at the MCG on Saturday night saw the Pies continue their winning ways as they defeated the Blues. Nick Daicos was superb again with 36 disposals to lead the way. Jordan De Goey (25 disposals, 1 goal) and Dan Houston (25 disposals, 9 marks, 1 goal) were also important in the win. Patrick Cripps (30 disposals, 6 marks, 6 tackles, 6 clearances, 2 goals) will definitely be in the votes with Jagga Smith (29 disposals, 8 clearances, 1 goal) and Sam Walsh (25 disposals, 6 marks, 6 clearances, 1 goal) also good contributors.

The Eagles were competitive but the Lions did enough to get the points. Kai Lohmann was electric up forward with 4 goals from 18 disposals and 8 marks to be one of the Lions best. Will Ashcroft (32 disposals, 7 clearances) and Lachie Neale (32 disposals, 6 marks, 6 clearances, 1 goal) were busy as ever with Josh Dunkley (28 disposals, 10 marks, 7 tackles), Zac Bailey (26 disposals, 7 marks, 1 goal) and Harris Andrews (22 disposals, 12 marks) all valuable in the win. Bailey Williams (16 disposals, 45 hitouts, 8 clearances) tried hard all day for the Eagles. Another game that is hard to split.

The Hawks dismantled the Tigers in a comprehensive display with Mitch Lewis (5 goals, 13 disposals) and Nick Watson (5 goals, 11 disposals) both kicking a bag. Jarman Impey (34 disposals, 11 marks, 1 goal) was excellent, with Connor Macdonald (33 disposals, 10 marks), Josh Battle (27 disposals, 6 marks, 1 goal) and Massimo D’Ambrosio (27 disposals) having big days. Tim Taranto (27 disposals, 8 tackles) was once again the best for Richmond.

The Bulldogs have put another nail in the coffin of the Suns season with a scrappy victory. Marcus Bontempelli (23 disposals, 3 goals) was a class above, with Bailey Williams (29 disposals, 8 marks), Matthew Kennedy (17 disposals, 6 marks, 3 goals) and Tim English (20 disposals, 10 marks, 20 hitouts) valuable in their roles. Touk Miller (39 disposals, 9 clearances) was the leading ball winner on the ground, while Matt Rowell (26 disposals, 11 tackles, 7 clearances) and John Noble (30 disposals, 10 marks) were also good for the Suns.

A giant upset as the Bombers lifted themselves off the bottom of the ladder as they held on against a disappointing Giants. Zach Merrett (35 disposals, 1 goal) bounced back from a poor game last week to be one of the Bombers best, along with Sam Durham (25 disposals, 7 clearances) and Nick Bryan (17 disposals, 31 hitouts, 8 clearances, 2 goal). Finn Callaghan (27 disposals) was best for the Giants.

For those who need a refresher on how our Brownlow vote predictor system works, we assign 6 votes per game so that our total votes are the same as the official 3-2-1 system, however we break up those votes as we see fit across potentially more than three players. Some games are really tough to call which way the votes will go, so a better predictive model is to split performances and assign half points to each player where there is doubt. So for example if two players dominate and it's too hard to split their performance, they are given 2.5 votes each, with the remaining 1 vote given to another player(s). This will give us a predictive total closer to their true total, rather than guessing. We can then form a 'range' for each player (i.e. a min and max we think players can poll) with the thinking behind this that the variations from the half votes will even out over the long term.
