NBA Betting Tips

We edge closer to NBA All-Star weekend, but before we get there, Thursday will see a massive 14-game slate as everyone except the Lakers and Mavericks will be in action. The first batch of games tip off at 11am AEDT and the final game between the Spurs and Warriors will be played at 2pm AEDT.

Here are our best bets for Thursday’s NBA regular reason games!

Detroit Pistons at Toronto Raptors (11:30am AEDT)

Tempers flared in the Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets game with Jalen Duren, Isaiah Stewart, Miles Bridges and Moussa Diabete ejected for a brawl. Heading into their next game, the Detroit Pistons (39-13) are almost certain to be without Duren and Stewart due to suspension, as they travel to Canada to battle the Toronto Raptors (32-22).

The Raptors have won their past two games over the Indiana Pacers 122-104 and the Chicago Bulls 123-107. Those two games don’t tell a lot as both are struggling in the East. The game prior to that, the Raptors just fell short, 128-126 to the Minnesota Timberwolves. With almost a clean bill of health, the Raptors will get plenty of scoring from Brandon Ingram, Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley. New acquisition Trayce Jackson-Davis has a double-double in just 15 minutes which helps bring size.

Speaking of size, the loss of Duren and Stewart will hurt the interior defense for the Pistons, and the Raptors should look to exploit that in this matchup. While the Pistons will still have Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson, Duncan Robinson and co. for the game, the Raptors will be full of confidence and with their home crowd behind them, I like their chances of winning the game.

Oklahoma City Thunder at Phoenix Suns (1:00pm AEDT)

The defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder (41-13) have cooled off lately with a 5-5 record from their last 10 games, as they navigate a stretch without MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Standing in front of them is the Phoenix Suns (31-22) who have lost their past two games. One of them came against the Philadelphia 76ers and the other to the Golden State Warriors.

Phoenix is 17-9 at home and they should be primed to bounce back following two disappointing losses – they shot just 40% from the field against the Sixers. If they can get their scoring working a bit better, looking at Devin Booker and Dillon Brooks to lead the way, combined with their excellent three-point defense, where they force opponents to shoot 34.7% from deep, then the Suns are more than capable of winning this as an underdog.

Back in January, the Suns won 108-105, as the Thunder finished with just 10-32 (31.3% from three). In that game, Phoenix had 49 rebounds compared to Oklahoma City’s 29. With a +6.5 point line, the Suns appeal in this matchup as long as there are no injury concerns from their game against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday.

San Antonio Spurs at Golden State Warriors (2:00pm AEDT)

A headline clash in the Western Conference between the San Antonio Spurs (36-16) and the Golden State Warriors (29-25). Unfortunately for the Warriors, they are without Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler and Kristaps Porzingis. For the Spurs, they will have all of their firepower and have a good road record of 16-10.

The Warriors have won both games this season over the Spurs, thanks to Curry dropping 46 and 49 points respectively. Without the future Hall of Famer, Golden State now turns to Gui Santos, Moses Moody, Draymond Green, Pat Spencer, Brandin Podziemski and Al Horford to share scoring duties. Compare that to the likes of Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle and De’Aaron Fox, those three players are all better than any of the Warriors available players.

One thing to note though is that the Spurs will be coming off a back-to-back against the Los Angeles Lakers – the Lakers are shorthanded which may give the Spurs starters less minutes, as they will likely handle the Lakers pretty easily and can get ready for the Spurs. With a -5.5 line, the Spurs still appeal on the road against the Warriors.

Spurs -5.5

$1.90 (2 Units)
