Ballarat Cup Day awaits punters this Saturday with last start winner Kingswood the current favourite in what is an open affair. The track will be Soft and a couple of light showers of rain are predicted throughout the day. Race one will start at 12:20pm (AEDT) with Maldini the popular horse with punters hoping he gets the win in the opener to set up their day on the punt. My three best bets of the day are below as is the quaddie!

Ballarat Racing Tips: Saturday, December 6th 2025
Race 1: The Courier 3 Year Old Handicap 1400m - 12:20m (AEDT)
(2) Maldini will settle on speed from barrier 2 and being in a small field I think the pace might be slow which will suit. He won two weeks ago at Cranbourne after settling 2nd so the Moody&Coleman gelding will get a similar race pattern here. He has won over this distance before and he is capable on Dry and Wet tracks.
(5) Wrigley Field has had a freshen up since winning at this track on Heavy 9 on November 3. Luke Currie stays on and he will likely take him back from the widest draw.
(4) Mostly For Show enjoys running on Soft tracks and he can run on very well in his races. Will want a strong tempo though which he may not get.
(2) Maldini WIN
$2.50 (3 units)
Race 9: Sportsbet Ballarat Cup 2000m - 5:05pm (AEDT)
(6) Saint George hasn’t won in more than 2 years and the Maher stable has been patient with this guy after he failed in the 2024 Melbourne Cup. Back in this campaign he has been backed to win in a couple of races and has ran quite good. He ran well in the Seymour Cup over the mile when 2nd then followed that up with another 2nd on Melbourne Cup Day over 1800m. He has been set to win a country cup this campaign and this looks a suitable race. Barrier 15 is a slight concern but Craig Williams is on.
(2) Kingswood is a last start winner where he won on Melbourne Cup Day beating Saint George (above). He likes the 2000m and he does go well on Soft tracks.
(4) Berkeley Square hasn’t won in almost a year and has been really disappointing this campaign. We have backed him a couple of times on this site for little to no return, but he is capable of running a good race in what is probably his last run this campaign.
(6) Saint George Each-Way
$5.00/$1.95 (1 unit)
Race 10: Manhari Handicap 1400m - 5:40pm (AEDT)
(10) Stylish has good credentials for this race and looks a good each-way chance in the last. Trained by Team Hayes he ran on very well last start at Caulfield when 3rd and she has won 3 races over the 1400m previously. She comes into this race reletively fresh and she does have a good record when raced that way. Ben Allen has been on top twice for a win and third and he will hope there is some early speed in this race so he can bring Stylish into the race into the home turn.
(3) Sunshineinmypocket is fav but has drawn wide in 16. Would love a track upgrade throughout the day because he has won 5 from 9 races on a Good track. He is 1 from 1 at Ballarat and he does go well fresh.
(6) Grid Girl may lead this field and she is going for three on the bounce here. Had better barriers her last couple (6) and has drawn a touch wide in 13 here.
(10) Stylish Each-Way
$7.50/$2.60 (1 unit)
