Sandown Lakeside will host eight races on the midweek timeslot on a track that is predicted to be a Soft5. Race one is due to start at 1pm with the popular quaddie legs starting in race five at 3:20pm. (AEST). After a cold morning predicted to be zero in the surrounding areas, trainers will prepare their horses to run on what is expected to be a clear day in Melbourne.
Brendan Bunworth brings you his three Sandown best bets for the day as well as his Quaddie selections, with odds thanks to Ladbrokes. And if you’re after more free tips for this week's key meetings, then head over to our Racing Tips!

Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday, August 20th 2025
Race 2: MRC Membership Feel The Thrill Handicap - 1:35pm (AEST)
(7) Butternut Princess is the favourite here for Moody&Coleman and I have gone with her after she settled handy at Hillside to place last start over 1600m. She stays at the mile and her form is better on Good or Soft5 tracks so conditions suit. Barrier 2 is a good get for the on pace runner who should get a beaut run from Cartwright who rides again.
(3) French Navy won very well at The Bool last start and he might lead this field. Linda Meech is on and she is one of the best front running riders in the country.
(4) Bold Strike will challenge for favourtism on the day and the consistent gelding will appreciate it if there is a track upgrade on the day. Has been well supported with punters his last four starts and it will be interesting to see if he gets backed into favourite again.
(7) Butternut Princess WIN
$2.40 (3 Units)
Race 3: Sportsbet Green Tick Handicap - 2:10pm (AEST)
(3) Hanafubuki ran on well after she got too far back last time at this track. She remains at the mile and a half and a Good or Soft5 track is key. This is her fourth run in and the stable will want to see progress this start I reckon. She has good closing speed and finds the line well. Fit and ready to go.
(1) Leaders Listen will settle handy again here but this is a harder race. He is 1 from 1 on the Soft and Ryan Houston rides again and he is 1 from 1 on top. May lead and if he can get a slowly run race again, he can place at odds.
(6) Chance Taken will find this assignment easier than his Morphetville outing on August 16 (5th). He will get back in the run and I reckon he will be the one closing off the fastest.
(3) Hanafubuki Each-Way
$4.60/$1.75 (1 Unit)
Race 7: The Big Screen Company Handicap - 4:30pm (AEST)
(9) Documentary was backed to win at Flemington last start and was disappointing when 8th. Before that though he was huge when he ran on from near last to finish 6th at Flemington. The rise to 1200m looks suitable and he is 1 from 1 on the Soft. Another senior jockey in Mark Zahra goes on and he has won twice on top before. He is a talented lightly raced seven year old who needs to show something now.
(13) Princess Que set handy and scored at this track last start. Lane stays on and she remains at the 1200m. Was in the right part of the track last start and this is another challenge. Should place though.
(7) Honor Galore is back in distance and has drawn wide (10) for Cliff Brown. Has placed 3 times from 3 starts over this distance and she has raced in much harder races than this. Improver and over the odds.
(9) Documentary Each-Way
$5.50/$2.05 (1 Unit)
