Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday August 16th 2025

August 15th 2025, 1:35pm, By: Brendan Bunworth

Caulfield Racing Tips

Caulfield hosts P.B Lawrence Stakes Day on Saturday as Group Racing returns to the course for the first time this racing season. The race will be run over 1400m and Private Eye for Joe Pride is the favourite. The track is currently rated as Soft but a Heavy course isn’t out of the realm of possibility if it rains on the day. Around 15mls of rain is expected to fall at Melbourne on the day.

Brendan Bunworth brings you his three best bets for day as well as his Quaddie selections, with odds thanks to Ladbrokes! If you’re after more free tips for this weekend’s key meets, then head over to our Racing Tips here.

Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday, August 16th 2025

Race 3: Graeme Smith’s 70th Birthday Celebrations - 1:35pm (AEST)

(7) Gala Queen has drawn wide in 11 and her best races have been on Dry tracks which is a bit of a worry. Is the fav and she has won second up previously and the 1400m looks more suitable. If the rain doesn’t come, she will be harder to beat obviously and she was sound when 5th last start over the 1100m which isn’t really her go. The rise in distance is the key here and she might just be too slick being second up with more fitness now.

(4) Cindy Falls is big odds here but deserves thought despite not having won a race in 13 months. There looks to be a bit of pace on in this race which will suit her and she does have the ability to run strong closing sectionals. A damp track would be a positive and she gets Logan Bates on and he has placed on her twice previously. Over the odds.

(17) Kira is 1 from 1 on the Soft and is another that is over the odds. Came from midfield last week and scored at Hillside and her last 200m was fast.

(7) Gala Queen Win

$3.40 (2 Units)

Race 4: Sportsbet Race Previews Handicap - 2:10pm (AEST)

(7) Stylish will settle handy again in this after winning at Flemington on August 2. The Soft track is a plus and Blake Shinn has already won twice on top previously. Stylish has won three races over this distance and despite failing at his only run at the track, I think he should atone at his second look here. Has a good winning strike rate and he doesn’t have to carry more weight.

(9) Capper Thirtynine must be respected after a good run at Flemington last start. He was runner-up at double figure odds but I think he is a bit short in this.

(2) Rheinberg is having her first start for the Bedgood camp after the Hayes boys couldn't get him going this prep. I have backed her a few times this prep at odds because he has ability but i’m not sure he is trying to 100 percent. Big odds again.

(7) Stylish WIN

$4.60 (2 Units)

Race 8: Catanach’s PB Lawrence Stakes - Group 2 - 4:35pm (AEST)

(1) Private Eye has won 12 from 43 races and comes to Victoria first up. He has won 4 times when first up before. He is very capable on wet tracks and he has only missed a placing over this distance on one occasion. Before his break he ran 3rd in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm and Rawiller who was on that day,he comes across from Sydney to ride. Private Eye won a trial on August 8 and he is my best of the day.

(6) Evaporate should get a good steer from barrier 3 and the stable believes he will be having a big Spring in 2025. He has placed at Caulfield before but he hasn’t won when first up previously. Should be winning a Group race over the Spring.

(2) Here To Shock will settle handy and he does go well fresh. But on form he goes better second up so we might wait until next start. Likes this track&distance though and a win wouldn’t surprise but the wide barrier (11) is a worry.

(1) Private Eye WIN

$2.90 (3 Units)
