Adelaide Oval, Saturday 7th August 5:10pm (AEST)
The second Showdown of the season gets underway on Saturday night between the two proud South Australian clubs. It’ll be the Power who will start as the overwhelming favourites on the back of a far better campaign compared to the Crows.
Adelaide were no match for the ladder-leading Western Bulldogs last weekend when losing by 49 points on the road. That loss came after a rare win against the Hawks in Round 19, which is their only victory since defeating the Saints back in Round 13. The Crows have now slipped down to 16th on the ladder with six wins to their name, which is a bit disappointing after the hot start they got off to.
Port Adelaide continue to tick over the win column to keep themselves firmly entrenched in the top four. Last weekend they got the better of the Giants on the road to make it three wins on the spin and six from their last seven games. Impressively, the Power haven’t lost back-to-back games at all this season, which is why they currently occupy fourth spot on the ladder and are just a game behind top spot.
Adelaide certainly don’t have injuries to blame for their lacklustre form because they have only a couple of guys forced onto the sidelines. In saying that, the Crows are set to be without Tex Walker for the remainder of the season after he was suspended for racial slurs. In contrast, Port Adelaide have had to deal with a number of injuries to key players this season but will field a near full-strength line-up with Robbie Gray set to return from a knee injury.
The Power were already the overwhelming favourites to win this clash and deservedly so, but we can’t help but think that the whole Tex Walker saga will also help the Power’s chances here. They’ve won the last three Showdown’s by an average margin of a tick over 60 points and with how these teams have been tracking in recent weeks, we’re expecting another similar result on Saturday.

There’s plenty of value in the player markets for the Showdown and we’ll kick things off by taking Travis Boak to collect 25+ disposals for our first leg. The 301-gamer has recorded at least 24 touches in every game this season and always rises in the important matches. For the second and third leg of our multi we’ll be focussing on Tom Lynch from Adelaide, who we believe is really good value in both the disposal and goal scoring markets. He’s had at least 17 touches and a goal in each of his last three games and there’s no reason why he won’t have similar numbers this weekend.
