NFL Week 8 Carolina Panthers at Green Bay Packers Betting Tips

Green Bay Packers
Green Bay had its three-game winning streak snapped in Week 7, falling 20-17 to Detroit in a game the Packers will feel they should have won. Jordan Love continued his productive recent form, throwing for more than 274 yards for the third consecutive game, but missed opportunities ultimately proved costly. Love is averaging almost 280 passing yards per contest this season, with Christian Watson and Matthew Golden providing plenty of explosive plays downfield. Watson has already recorded six receiving touchdowns, while tight end Tucker Kraft remains another reliable target.
The Packers also welcomed Josh Jacobs back into the lineup last weekend, providing a much-needed boost to a running game that had ranked last in the NFL through the opening six weeks. Jacobs managed just 36 rushing yards against Detroit but contributed another 55 yards and a touchdown through the air. Green Bay continues to battle injuries, particularly along the offensive line and at linebacker, with centre Sean Rhyan expected to miss several weeks. However, the defence has remained impressive despite those setbacks, holding a dangerous Detroit offence to just 20 points last weekend.
Carolina Panthers
Carolina enters Thursday night desperate for a response after being embarrassed 43-13 by Tampa Bay in Week 7. The Panthers were comprehensively outplayed on both sides of the football, with Bryce Young enduring his worst performance of the season after entering the game among the league leaders in passing yards. Young struggled under constant pressure, taking five sacks and committing three turnovers as Carolina's offence failed to establish any meaningful rhythm.
The Panthers' defence was arguably even more disappointing, allowing Tampa Bay to score 43 points despite Baker Mayfield throwing for just 64 yards. Carolina has been particularly vulnerable against the run, an issue that could become even more significant with Jacobs returning for Green Bay. Injuries have also taken their toll, with starting right tackle Taylor Moton sidelined and several other offensive linemen battling fitness concerns. Young still has dangerous weapons in Tetairoa McMillan, Jalen Coker and Chuba Hubbard, but protecting the quarterback and improving defensively will be crucial if Carolina is to remain competitive.
Prediction
Green Bay enters this matchup with considerably more to like on both sides of the football, particularly after an encouraging defensive performance against Detroit. The Packers have held their past two opponents to a combined 33 points and now face a Carolina offence coming off its most disappointing outing of the season. Young has been productive for much of the year, but injuries along the offensive line and the pressure of playing at Lambeau Field on a short week present significant challenges.
The return of Jacobs also gives Green Bay an excellent opportunity to establish its running game against a Panthers defence that was comprehensively exposed by Tampa Bay last weekend. That should create additional opportunities for Love and his dangerous receiving group, particularly with Watson enjoying an outstanding season. Carolina has enough attacking talent to remain competitive, but Green Bay's defensive consistency and favourable offensive matchups make the Packers the preferred play to cover the 3.5-point handicap at home.

Josh Jacobs Anytime Touchdown
Jacobs returned to the Green Bay lineup last weekend and immediately made an impact, scoring a receiving touchdown against Detroit despite being limited to 11 rushing attempts. The veteran running back should see his workload increase as he continues building match fitness, and this looks an ideal matchup against a Carolina defence that has struggled badly against the run. The Panthers were torn apart on the ground by Tampa Bay last weekend and have consistently allowed opposing running backs to find success throughout the season. With Green Bay expected to enjoy plenty of opportunities inside the red zone, Jacobs looks well placed to find the end zone for the second consecutive week.
