Newcastle Racing Tips: Friday, September 20th

September 20th 2019, 11:34am, By: Luke Krahe

Welcome to our preview and horse racing betting tips for racing at Newcastle on Friday, September 20th.

There's three big Group 3 events which make this a cracking card and one that really spices up Friday's racing ahead of a big weekend of Group 1 racing. The Newcastle Gold Cup is the feature, supported by the Cameron Handicap and the Tibbie Stakes.

We've previewed the four quaddie legs of the meeting below.

Newcastle Racing Tips: Friday, September 20th

Race 5 – Cameron Handicap Group 3 1500m (Market)

With Kolding electing to go to town tomorrow, (14) Rock has come up with the top billing. He has returned brilliantly from the paddock, he ran on strongly from worse than mid-field at Canterbury to bolt in by 2 lengths resuming and then went to Randwick last time in a a harder race against the boys. Again he settled back in the race and found the outside, ran on hard and won by almost 2 lengths with the best last sectionals of the race. Obviously from the wide gate he will be snagged back, but every chance seems to get their chance up the long straight here at Newcastle. He looks to be special, but as always with these back markers they usually need all the favours and everything to go right. (6) Wren’s Day is an interetsing runner for the Godolphin tea, having his second Australian start, he was ok at Randwick fresh and will have taken plenty from the run, but he was a little one paced and prefer to see him over further. I think Rock may just run straight past him if he is behind him in the run and if he has the tactical advantage, I can’t see Wren’s Day being able to accelerate quick enough. I’m happy to take him on and leave him out of everything. Others for Quaddie players should include (9) Savapinski up from Victoria who will be up on the speed, (5) Con Te Partiro didn’t have much luck in town resuming and (1) Mantastic who wasn’t suited by the way the track was playing fresh.

Race 6 - BM64 Handicap 1200m (Market)

It is a little surprising that we go from a quality Group Three at Race 5 into this at 64 grade, but.. It is what it is. (5) Calipari has to take the step from maiden winner into a BM64, bu this doesn’t look a strong field. He looks to have resumed well, he was brilliant in a recent trial win here at the track winning by seven lengths before coming to the races again. He resumed at flip of the coin odds, was in front coming to the turn before kicking away at the 300m for a very impressive and soft win. There have already been three winners come through that race so far proving it a very good form reference. H elooks to get a soft lead and if he can produce that acceleration early in the straight, they may not be able to catch him. He loks a great each-way bet. Others for Quaddie players to include are (2) Hit The Target who was good resuming and won at his only other second-up run, (4) Texas Storm who ran on well at Wyong resuming wit the best last sectional of the race and (9) Pandano who was heavily backed here in a similar race last time, they raced him up on the speed that day and did have every chance. The tongue-tie goes n with him.

Race 7 – Newcastle Gold Cup Group 3 2300m (Market)

Kris Lees holds the key to his local Cup here with 5 runners after scratchings, and I am with one of them in (16) Our Candidate. He has been going through the grades nicely this campaign and no doubt this was the end goal, unlike a few of these. Two starts back at Rosehill he bolted in by more than 4 lengths after a brilliant ride from the back, then was in town again last time but back down at Randwick. He settled closer, ran up behind the leaders approaching the straight and once again showed a good turn-of-foot to win easily. Avdulla should have him mid-field at worst, some of these are very one paced and he should be able to get the fly when the runs come. Others for Quaddie players should include (18) The Good Fight a Kiwi who had some nice sectionals at his first run here but will find this his toughest test, (8) Hush Writer for the Gai/Bott team who should be up on the speed for a long way, (2) Our Century who probably needed the run in the Wyong Cup and should be fitter here and (1) Red Cardinal resuming. He has the class but may need the run fresh and no doubt his goal this prep wasn’t the Newcastle Cup.

(16) Our Candidate

$2.50

Race 8 – Tibbie Stakes Group 3 F&M 1400m (Market)

(5) Sweet Deal has won two of his last three, the only failure was at 94 grade in town a couple of weeks ago where he led everywhere bar the post. You know what you will get with him, he will be making his own luck up on the speed and looks a great each-way bet to nothing. (2) Pohutukawa is resuming for the blue army of Godolphin, not really sold how well the stable is going at the moment and this girl may need the run, I would love to see some serious money for her but can see her a huge drifter late. She placed at Group One level in the Winter in Brisbane so she obviously has the class. (9) Notation should be a small play in the Quaddie at least, she travels up from Canberra and hasn’t had much luck at her last couple since putting together some wins earlier in the prep. She will also be up on the speed. (10) Connemara is from the in-form Bjorn Baker stable and will be hitting the line hard if they go crazy up front.

(5) Sweet Deal E/W
