Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Tuesday, May 12th.

Horse Racing Tips: Tuesday, May 12th

Sale Race 3 - (Market)

We tackle the third of three jumps races to start the card at Sale, a maiden steeplechase over the big sticks. (8) Referee didn’t go around at the Bool but he did trial well enough the week prior to the carnival on the day most of the big guns went around. Admittedly he doesn’t have a great record with just the one win from 38 career starts and he did fall last time he was sent over the obstacles. This time last year he placed in a Warrnambool maiden steeple on a heavy track behind an impressive winner that went on to win again. He should be close to the speed, his last two runs on the flat have been encouraging and am looking forward to him coming back over the jumps. He will be double figure odds at some stage of the betting, win and place looks the way to go.

(8) Referee E/W

$7.50

Sale Race 4 - (Market)

A lot of unknowns with the babies going around in the first of the flat raves for the day, two-thirds of the field are having their first start. (7) Seguso is a debutant for the Graeme Begg yard who has been to the jump-outs twice in preparation for this. The latest was at Caulfield down the back, he jumped well and sat three-wide on the speed. He wasn’t pushed out at any stage and accelerated nicely late. He officially ran third but could have won had the jock shown any urgency. He was fourth of ten at his first unofficial trial, looks to have plenty of ability and as always, the money should be respected with these debutants. He opened up double figures back on Friday when first markets were released, he was well backed early Sunday (time of writing). I wouldn’t be getting too heavily involved if he shortens too much but I do love this yard when they back them.

(7) Seguso

$4.40

Taree Race 1 - (Market)

The 2YO’s go around for the first of the day at Taree, Kris Lees prepares the Night Of Thunder gelding (1) Irish Thunder for his second start today. He debuted here at the track a couple of weeks ago off the back of a couple of good trials, He was well found in the betting and solid deep in the red with the satchel swingers. He jumped fairly and from an inside gate, he drove through and led and after kicking early in the straight, never looked like getting run down. He does have to jump up to the 59.5 kg and although there is the likelihood of improvement from a lot of these babies, he looks to have more scope. Draws well, Gibbo stays on and will be very hard to run down again.

(1) Irish Thunder

$1.75

Taree Race 2 - (Market)

(5) Salamangkera is a locally trained 3YO filly that has had three start, all here at her home track. She gave them a huge start on debut and was never a factor, then at start two sat a lot closer to the speed and stuck on well from second. She was sent to the paddock and resumed here after having 4-months off, she stuck up on the speed well and was only beaten just under 2 lengths. She is drawn well and if she can show the improvement she showed at her first prep from fresh to second-up, she will be hard to run down. Looks good value at the likely double figure quote.
