Another quiet day of racing with country and provincial-based meetings Australia-wide, which means some low quality events. Tim Geers has highlighted two bets he's keen on from Scone and Pakenham Synthetic though, and you can find them below!
Horse Racing Tips: Tuesday, August 18th
Scone Race 2 (Market)
Keen to have a very good bet at this race with two horses on debut. (8) Toatoa is trained by Paul Messara, who has a freakish record at Scone. Last season, he had a 50% winning strike rate here, and Toatoa is one of two runners on the day for him. She’s a four-year-old mare that’s had three trials this preparation and she’s got better with each one. She comes to the races with the blinkers on first time and I’d be very surprised if she wasn’t right in the finish. I’ll be backing her and saving on (10) Slipped Up. This horse ran last in his first trial but improved nicely in his second one, where he ran 2nd. Greg Hickman doesn’t bring runners to Scone often, but when he does they go well. He’s drawn awkward out in barrier 16 but if he can overcome that draw, he should be fighting out the finish too.

Pakenham Synthetic Race 3 (Market)
(1) Lord Wonder probably should have won on debut. He was very well backed but got held up at a crucial stage of the straight and although he motored home late, he was unable to pick up the leader. They were 3L clear of the third horse which is always a good sign. Big jockey change today with Michael Dee replacing Carleen Hefel, and if she can overcome the wide draw she should be winning this. Taking $2.20. I thought the Flemington jumpout of (10) Queen Of Rocks was ordinary, so I thought the biggest danger here would be Peter Moody’s supremely bred colt (9) Best Ever. He’s by Snitzel out of More Joyous. I thought her first jumpout at Pakenham was good but her second one was ordinary. Notable that it was back in July, so she’s had about six weeks since that, indicating there may have been an issue. I’ll be saving on him at $6.50.
