Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Sunday, October 20th.
A huge weekend of racing in Australia concludes with a couple of Country Cups! We've got the Horsham Cup and the Seymour Cup headlining the day's racing, with interest also at Wyong for their meeting.
We've picked out our best bets of the day and our selections for the feature races below!
Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, October 20th
Wyong Race 4 (Market)
(7) Beaufort Park has had four runs back from a spell, he returns to the scene here at Wyong of his latest win when resuming this prep. He showed a good turn-of-foot that day which is needed in the short run home, from the wide gate they have plenty of time to find their spots from the chute and long run to the first turn. He was well in the market at Randwick last time in a harder race and over-raced badly mid-field during the early and middle stages. He eased wide and loomed to win in the straight but the early work when pulling saw him tire late. The winner and the third place-getter from that race have since some out and won, the key here for me is the blinkers coming off, hopefully he will settle better andthis looks easier.
Wyong Race 5 (Market)
(1) Isorich is easily the most experienced horse in the field, the 9YO is lining up for career start number 104 today! I would normally be staying away from horses with that many runs under their belt, but the key is how much he loves racing at his home track here at Wyong. Of those 103 starts he has had 11 here for 5 wins and three placings. He was in a similar race here last time and was narrowly beaten after trying to lead all the way, even though he carries more weight today, it looks a positive jockey change with the senior hoop going on. He will go forward in the run, the key will be if he is first across to the fence.
Horsham Race 6 - Horsham Cup (Market)
The Horsham Cup is one of two Country Cups today, we target the most inexperienced horse in the field (3) Wetakemanhattan. He has only had 12 starts, winning 5 and second in three others, he has only had one start back this prep. It was a BM78 in town at Flemington over a mile, he led from the good gate and kicked hard early in the straight and let down nicely for a soft win and never looked in danger. He has the inside gate and should be dug up to hold the front, see how the track is playing early, if he lobs on the bunny early, go again in the run. (2) Barry The Baptist placed when in the market in the Murtoa Cup last time, (4) Arty Lucas also comes through that race and gets the blinkers on. One that creates interest is the 10yo (6) Prize resuming. He hasn’t raced in 2.5 years, would love to hear the story there why he is back in work?
(3) Wetakemanhattan
$1.70
Seymour Race 7 - Seymour Cup (Market)
The $200K Seymour Cup is the feature of the day, the mile handicap is a Listed race that brings together an small but competitive field. (7) Desert Lord was our original selection but has been scratched after racing at Caulfield yesterday where he pulled up with an issue. That leaves us with (4) Admiral's Joker on top. He's flying, winning both runs this prep, making it three in a row. He was especially good at his latest when running over the top of Rox The Castle at Caulfield when it was difficult to get past the leaders all day. Rox The Castle then came out and won in Listed grade at its next start so the form has been franked in good style. He won over 1800m at the end of last prep so the step up to the mile third up from a spell today looks ideal. (5) A Shin Rook was a good winner as favourite in the Gold Nugget last time, he has had a month between runs but has trialed since. He has a good third up record and goes even better on firm ground so he looks the danger.
(4) Admiral's Joker
